I worked at Genesis HealthCare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Paid life insurance
    direct deposit
    floating holiday
    credit union affiliation
    good staff development

    Cons

    no company contribution to 401K
    Poor DNS/communicator
Poor communication in changes that arise
    No admission nurse
The facility states the admission process is a 24 hour timeframe. Never did the following shift follow up or would offer.
    Favoritism

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

DNS needs to get out of the office to become pro active to see what is going on the units. Never followed though on things that were implemented; just "thought they were in place". Poor followup and communication.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

Abundant resources for new practitioners on internal website and via educational calls, opportunities for specialization if you're willing to put the time and effort in while balancing an already challenging caseload

    Cons

Low pay, huge emphasis on productivity, unrealistic amount of documentation in time allotted, high stress, genesis has no problem giving a new grad 4 evaluations in one day or consistently giving a new grad an average of 2 evals daily on top of a schedule of nothing but progress reports and re certifications

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Unrealistic expectations need to stop somewhere

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedule for DOR, great team of therapists and colleagues.

    Cons

GRS keeps taking things away from their long term EE's. DOR doesn't get PAID adequately...or even near what competitors pay. the Therapists make same or $1-2 less than manager... Responsibilities of DOR increase with no pay increase or appreciation of what they do (other than a simple "thanks"). Max merit is 2% for anyone. No WEB for managers working in own gym. since going public in Feb 2015, productivity and labor management are beaten to death. Old area director was amazing and a huge people person...GRS realigned and you guessed it, AD was moved and new AD came in. Now Use of Micromanagenent is an understatement. No autonomy. Little support from Area management team for DOR with troubled administrator/building. Annual reviews for management are NEVER done timely resulting in wating for increase and retro pay that gets messed up...then your asked to explain why #'s dont add up with the budget. :(
Morale was fantastic for a couple years and coming to work was fun. I do still enjoy all my coworkers and staff...they are like family.... Problem really lies within Genesis corporate and their lack of humility and understanding the idea of taking care of your own people. Cuts, cuts and more cuts. Medical benefits went up and choices were decreased to (2). This is a healthcare company.... Where's the healthcare for your people who make GHC the $$$?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We realize healthcare is a business, but please, spend less time looking at one dinentional reports and more time living your promises. Take a poll of your AD's and see and follow them thru their day. Notice if they have (+) influence on others or if scare tactics and lack of transparency are being used. Recognize hard work/dedication before the 10year marker. Look at WHY people are leaving Genesis and take action to correct the flaws. You have great theories but in reality its a bust! Remember, PCH is just a number...we deal with sick and needy human beings everyday... Doesn't the compassion, care and quality treatment count for something.... Maybe you should generate a report for that!

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare full-time

    Pros

Great educational opportunities and online university for CEUs.

    Cons

Hard to get time off to take advantage of educational opportunities. Have to ask of 4 months in advance. Burns you out. Treats full time staff like PRN sending 1 therapist to 3 different SNF in on day to cover sick coworkers.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare

    Pros

Staff, patients, benefits, hours available, easy to use computer systems, in services, call conferences, easy to get in touch with corporate

    Cons

Sometimes the merit increases don't get done every year which puts a damper on morale, not a lot of company picnics on GRS side like there was on GHC side.

I have been working at Genesis HealthCare

    Pros

Competitive pay for management, the product that Food And Nutrition produces is great quality

    Cons

No support from the company for their expectations, and very poor communication about what they even are. Various departments are sharply divided, no unity. It takes forever to hire someone, the process is very clunky and computer based, and pay for non-exempt employees is noncompetetive, meaning that good candidates never apply and the mediocre ones that do often give up. Budgets are unrealistic for labor, and are cut further whenever the company has a shortfall. No accountability - nursing aides get away with murder since they're always in short supply. Anything they refuse to do gets pawned off on other departments, but those other departments don't get those labor hours to actually do it. Lousy training - if you get any at all, but you'll be expected to know everything right away. Locked in on approved vendors - and they know it, so customer service from them is atrocious. Benefits were great but have now been altered and are very expensive and offer less.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on building bridges between the departments. Ensure your own policies are being followed. Balancing your budget on the backs of your employees is unsustainable.
