I have been working at General Dynamics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Exposure to lots of different technology, interesting projects, and employees have a decent ability to manage career, hard work is noticed and rewarded. Good benefits and opportunities available.

    Cons

Defence budget is constantly being cut. Impossible deadlines are continually being set and therefore always delivering late (common to most large software projects).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consult designers for project estimates and consider shelving legacy products and starting new.

I have been working at General Dynamics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people, entering new markets, good technology, treat employees with respect, provide good tools and facilities to get the job done

    Cons

Senior management out of touch and seem to not know how to grow the business. The old ways will not work anymore. The business model is broken.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The old ways can't keep the company a float. You need to expand your strategy to new markets and new products.

I have been working at General Dynamics (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Some extremely talented people in the industry have worked there at one time or another.

    Cons

The extremely talented people have left, either voluntarily or not. Mediocrity ensures that you will have a long life at GD. Weak middle management continues to foster that environment. Social ties trump merit. The HR department protects itself. Belt-tightening efforts have cut muscle and bone, rather than fat. What it is left is complete inertia.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Elevate employees who have proven themselves, rather than those who have marked time at the company. Put people in place who can actually implement the corporate vision, not micromanage to death what is already working.

    Cons

What a mess... Professional level is very low, no decision makers, a lot of idiots around....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at General Dynamics full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I like to help others, it helps me to better myself as a person.

    Cons

The customer's lack of understanding the limits on what one is able to do as an agent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If anything, listen to the representatives, they are taking the calls, so their views on what can help call flow, customer service, support and satisfaction as well as the work environment should be considered.

I worked at General Dynamics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Top notch organization, with highly capable individuals. Positive work environment with good personal to work balance.

    Cons

Defense industry down and makes for an unsettled/insecured atmosphere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too much politics in the decision making. Heavy weighting of decisions to the east coast portion of the organization for no reason other than its the east coast portion of the organization (which oddly enough is where the executive management are from.
