Former Employee – worked at Gaylord Entertainment

ProsThe company offers competitive pay, friendly peers, some flexibility, and an overall great work environment. It is definitely considered a top-employer in Nashville.

ConsThe company can be very bureaucratic, especially in regards to management decisions. Often quick decisions are made without thorough and adequate knowledge of the complexities involved.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagers need to be attune to all levels within their departments. Understanding the various employee roles, and the challenges presented at all levels, will help upper management make decisions that solve problems long-term, versus just providing a temporary solution.

Current Employee – been working at Gaylord Entertainment full-time for more than 3 years

ProsPay is good (for now), Generally a fun place to work, Discounts at other hotels, Hotel generally tries to treat employees well

ConsA new managment company (gaylord doesn't own this company anymore, not sure if the CEO listed is still in charge) is taking this place in a very troubling direction, new positions coming in paying less than current employees which probably means cuts down the road, poor benefits pkg, career opportunities will be limited, very poor work/life balance, disconnect with Senior Mgmt., unreasonable goals and demands

Advice to Senior Managementget back to what made this hotel great - taking care of the employees

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Nashville, TN (US)

Former Employee – worked at Gaylord Entertainment full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGood people on the front lines
Decent insurance
Discounted tickets to the Grand Ol' Opry, General Jackson
Employee discount at Bass Pro Shop

ConsMiddle management that does not portray what's actually going on
Lack of training opportunities
Favoritism run amok
Very cliquish groups at the back of the house

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't always listen to your middle managers. They will tell you what they think you want t hear. You need to get down on the front lines and find out what's really going on. Get rid of the favoritism and give more opportunities to move up within the company.

ProsIf you are looking to learn, perform and keep looking up - this is the place for you.
"Never good enough" doesn't belong in the "Con" category. When it is "good enough" it is time to get a crossing guard job and a lawn chair.
In an industry that has massive turnover looking for the greener grass, this is the greener grass.
The "STARS" First culture doesn't mean "me first" and it shouldn't.
Gaylord is a very good business. The upcoming contract with Marriott is only going to increase the precision and depth of resources of the Gaylord Texan.

ConsWork/life balance is going to be - let's just say - unbalanced until you find your stride and affect a reasonable schedule.

Advice to Senior ManagementSo far, so good. I am in an incredible and rare position.
If I told you what it is, I would no longer be anonymous.
