Friendly company, great people and easy work. A great place to make grocery money, or support yourself through school.

I have been working at Fred Meyer part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are great, they became my family, The work is very easy and they have a union so your needs are taken care of. They are pretty good about working with your schedule.

    Cons

A lot of the people in management don't pay attention to you further than your necessary function in the grand machine. T be fair a lot of the young people there have no ambition and so they treat their employees the way you would if the had no ambition.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice: teach everyone in a position of supervising their employees better leadership skills. They should take more of an interest in their employees as people and communicate better.

    I worked at Fred Meyer

    Pros

    - Fun associates to work with
    - Can be fun working with customers
    - Fast moving environment

I got employed here right out of high school. Worked here for about a year and a half and learned more about myself and what it's like to work. It's a tough job and could be even tougher working with various customers, but can be very rewarding

    Cons

    - It's retail.
    - Depending where you live, you might run into those "picky" customers and you have to deal with it. But they're few and far between.

Retail is retail...it sucks. But that's not the companies fault.

I have been working at Fred Meyer

    Pros

They have a great medical & dental plan.

    Cons

From what I hear they don't listen to the employees desires or needs. I heard someone had to get hurt on the job before Fred Meyer would even consider their safety concerns.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more aware of what your people in charge are doing. They must lead the way & show the right thing to do, not just boss everyone around.

I worked at Fred Meyer full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Discount
PT work with minimum hours guaranteed
Union medical benefits for self/children after 6 months when you work 80 hours per month

    Cons

No work-life balance for full-time employees
Professional growth opportunities require being transferred anytime regional determines within district/zone (commute may be up to 3 hours one-way during traffic)
PT 12 hour/week employee must be available/willing to flex to 24 hours/week, PT 20 hour/week to 40. This makes it hard to have a 2nd job or outside responsibilities.
    Union membership required.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow all associates a set schedule as much as possible - roughly same starting/ending times and days off to support better work-life balance. When transferring management, consider their commute - they are already on the job 11 hours per day, 5 days per week. Provide more development opportunities within a store location.

    I worked at Fred Meyer

    Pros

    * health insurance
    * decent benefits if you have worked there long enough.
    * easy job

    Cons

    * Started at 9.42 and didn't get a pay raise in 10 months
    * If you are a part time 20, they want 50 dollars a month in Union dues, along with a 150 dollar "initiation" fee. So basically you are working for less than minimum wage.
    * Most of the people you work with don't care or are lazy

    Pros

Great coworkers! Benefits and pay are good if you stick around.

    Cons

Management is a joke. They show no compassion for their employees and rarely care about anything outside of what the next step up sees.
