I have been working at Ford Motor Company full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great group of people who are passionate about designing a better vehicle for the customer.
The group that I work in are very very good at what they do, and are always willing to help out if you are struggling something.
Its also great to be part of a great company at ford, the corporate culture encourages employees of different departments to work together, I won't deny there has been friction with working in other departments but compared to working at other automotive companies this place is better.
The benefits are also great as well.
ford is investing not only in new facilities, but they are also hiring new engineers.
I also like a casual working environment, Ford is fine with you wearing jeans and a polo to work, they suggest if you are meeting with suppliers. Also Ford encourages its employees to telecommute once a week typically Friday, but it isn't required.

    Cons

Unless you live in Dearborn, the commute to work is pretty bad, traffic on Southfield (M39) or 94 is pretty bad. I wish there were better cafeteria options for Food, usually you have to go out to eat if you don't pack, but one of the best Thai restaurants in the Metro Detroit area is 10 min from Ford's campus. Parking can be an issue if you work at EVB

I worked at Ford Motor Company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

They are like a family there, everyone says hi in the morning and have a good night when you leave at the end of the day.

    Cons

I did have to spend some time in the foundry, which was the dirtiest place at Ford.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people on the floor, they have good ideas that can help the company. I know that a lot of management want to protect their jobs but they can add some positive input.

I worked at Ford Motor Company as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The new CEO is a non automotive guy and that's a positive. Hopefully he can break the mold and the mindset that infects the automotive industry.

    Cons

The old guard are still set in their ways. I guess they never received Mulally's memo about changing the way they operate on the floor.

Current Intern - Finance Analyst in Oakville, ON

I have been working at Ford Motor Company as an intern (more than a year)

    Pros

Well structured business procedures and highly experienced management team. Overall a very buttoned-down organization with great IT group and facilities. Location in Oakville, ON is also a plus.

    Cons

Decision making power lies in the US, all support services are out-sourced to the US or india. Skeleton workforce is maintained to keep business running in Canada. As a result few employees are excited about their work and work-life balance is a constant difficulty.
