Former Employee – worked at Florida International University part-time for more than a year
Pros – Good diversity. If you get bored there is lot to enjoy. Spanish is must here. Recently they have hired many professors from good universities. I hoping they will do their best to improve the departments
Cons – The infrastructure should improve. The departments needs more funds for the development. Also the engineering centre is boring and there are no proper restaurants here. The girls are distracting since they are very hot. lol
Advice to Senior Management – The professors should become more active so that they can get enough funds for graduate students. Also the infrastructure should improve.

Former Employee – worked at Florida International University full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – FIU has great benefits and a laid back atmosphere. Working there while being a student is great and management was very flexible with course/work schedules.
Cons – Raises are hard to come by. A great job and great review at the end of the year yields a whopping $0.10 raise. Not much, but what more can you expect for a student position.
Advice to Senior Management – I know it's hard, but find a way to better pay evolving staff. I tried to move up the ladder and found that even supervisor/manager level compensation was hard to live with in Miami.

Current Employee – been working at Florida International University full-time for less than a year
Pros – Although it is not a good fame university, it is a vibrant place. Lots of constructions are going on, and departments especial for bio-related are expanding. Good infrastructure, reasonable student, and nice weather.
Cons – Because it is relative new, national recognition may not be great so far. Administrative process for a new employee is kind of slow at least for postdoc.

Former Employee – worked at Florida International University part-time for more than a year
Pros – Large international study body brings an interesting mix of experience and perspective to the classroom.
Cons – Little freedom to plan or structure my classes. I was required to teach "the program," which required a great expenditure of time for very little pay. Also, there was little support from management when problems with students arose.
Advice to Senior Management – If you are going to require a specific program be taught, then provide standard assignments and lesson plans so each incoming teacher doesn't have to recreate the same wheel. Also, if you raise the class enrollment cap, raise the per class pay.

Current Employee – been working at Florida International University full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Hands-on approach that let's you become engaged if you want to be engaged. Good opportunities to get exposure if you are willing to put in the time and effort.
Cons – Focus on short term profit at the expense of commitment to long term vision of academic excellence. Little respect for work life balance.
Advice to Senior Management – Reaffirm your commitment to academic excellence and reward those who are committed to it. Walk the walk, don't just talk the talk.
