This was the worst experience of my career

Learning Coordinator (Current Employee) Itasca, IL (US)

ProsThere are no pros. This company is not going to be around very long

ConsPeople are treated poorly. Management is allowed to be hostile and belittle employees and this behavior is supported by senior leaders.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo matter how much leader trainging you offer, if leaders are still allowed to belittle and yell, and mis treat their staff, then your company will fail. Look at your legacy employees, they are ruining your company. You keep promoted them and they don't have a clue what they are doing. Treat minorities with respect. Don't have a diversity program if people don't have to treat minorities with respect

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

The Toyota of Chicago banks - dependable, excellent value, uninspiring

    Commercial Banking Officer (Former Employee)

ProsSupport and knowledge of senior management is excellent. Bank has a top-notch benefits program. 401k plan offers profit sharing and an excellent mix of investment options. Employees have access to an above average training department. Company's realistic goals promote work/life balance.

ConsUnfortunately bonuses are below industry average. Company follows the market and is definitely not an innovator. No brand recognition outside of southwest suburban market. Finally, unattractive branch offices.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmbrace technology, invest in a marketing strategy, update appearance of current locations and allow employees horizontal mobility within the organization.

Work can be challenging and fulfilling. But old school thinking hinders processes and possible growth.

It's not a top 25 workplace (Chicago Tribune) for no reason...

Marketing Decision Support Analyst (Current Employee) Itasca, IL (US)

    Pros-Rewarded for growth and performance
-Obtainable promotions and value continued learning
    -Some great management throughout.
    -Small business feel
-Many staff have been with company for a long time
-Strong bank in the face of economic hardship
-Focused on growth and advancement in the market

Cons-Recent restructuring leave several areas in an area of uncertainty.
-Some "old school" thinking and executive leadership (beginning to change a bit)

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing what you're doing to further the company and the brand but don't lose sight of what makes First Midwest the choice for it's clients... the valued, tenured staff.

    Decent - Not Great

Corp HQ Employee (Current Employee) Itasca, IL (US)

ProsFlexibility is good - but is greatly dependent on your manager.
Raises have remained at at least 3% - even in sour economy.
If you work hard, you will have the chance to move up - just not very fast.

ConsLike anyplace lately - theme is do more with less. Staffs are lean and budgets never go up - but rather down.
Innovation is not something that occurs here. Slow to market, slow to innovate.
Silo'd - new executives have done little to change this - if anything, it is worse than in years past.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe willing to spend money on technology - both for employees and for client facing products. Its 2013 not 1996.

Realize you can only become so lean before morale and loyalty go out the window.

Cons- might not get paycheck on time
    - deal with unruly people
    - very loud
