I have been working at Family Dollar Stores (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy to move up, paid vacation,

    Cons

Work 10 hour shifts sometimes no guarantee for breaks, expect you to have the store immaculate while piling on things to do in a short amount of time. If you are not up to par you come into work with passive aggressive notes threatening to fire you. Only getting paid 8.50 to do four jobs at once. Hours are never predictable and change on the managers whim.

    Advice to Management

    Appreciate your workers more

    Pros

Our team members, regular customers, direct impact in our community, seeing your hard work pay off. Whatever is needed to run your store is given to you monthly via in a marketing kit, intranet, as well as upper management. Family Dollar sets you up for successful store operation, those complaining either didn't or couldn't manage their time and staff well or were just lazy. I personally feel sorry for anyone that wasn't able to have the management experience I've had at the stores that I worked in.
In non-management roles, you are able to pick up more hours... if you show that you're a great employee. There's no reason to reward someoe who calls out, half does theur job description or complains about everything.
It's evident that Family Dollar has put a lot of time and resources into creatibg an effectice training program through both the intranet and one on one training. My best advice is to print tge training classes and create your own personal training notebook!

    Cons

When everyone isn't working together as a team, it's a little harder to accomplish daily goals. As an assistant manager, I look forward to these challenges because not only working through them gives me a better outlook on how to hurdle these difficulties, it also shows my team that I'm willing to give them my all instead of complaining. There are times when I'd love to complain about what's going on in my store, but that would bring the morale of the store down and it's not conducive to a teamwork environment.

    Advice to Management

My best advice is to change the message from 'Always hiring' to 'always looking for new talent'

    Pros

was well compensated. I was fortunate I managed a "traditional" store, versus a new modern "cookie cutter" store. Was able to use my brains for merchandising. After you get the routine down, really kind of easy to manage, if you were a pro like me

    Cons

Have we heard this before HOURS WORKED!!! (55-65) NO PAYROLL!!(under 8% wage cost)! A third of every day, only one person on sales floor. customer service? Nope

    Advice to Management

no advice here because they do not listen anyway. everybody is watching out for themselves. "BS", as we know, rolls down hill

    Pros

Flexi hours and pay was pretty good for it being a part time job. Co workers were pretty good.

    Cons

I don't really have any negative things to say it was a pretty ok job for the time being and I would work there again.

    Advice to Management

I'm bad at advice so I have none to really give out except maybe hiring more people we were always understaffed
