    Pros

The over time is time and a half and given out each week. Management is very keen on listening to employees feedback in pulling merchandise. The Break rooms are very relaxing and resourceful in dealing with a stressful day.

    Cons

No A/c or Heat IN THE WAREHOUSE. no unexcused absences. Must consistently keep a close eye on merchandise pulled when operating the PIT equipment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep a closer eye on order fillars assignments.

Current Employee - Assistant Store Manager in Taylor, MI (US)

    Pros

The people I worked with where cool. A lot of room to move up, good customer service experience. Meet a lot of new people. This job for me really helped to build character and work ethic.

    Cons

The pay was really the only con for me. I starter off as a cashier at min wage and became an Assistant manager they gave me $1 more per hour that was straight bs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees more they really do work hard for your company. you can afford It you should start off at $10 for cashiers $12 for AMs I unsure about SMs, but I'm sure they should be getting paid more.

Current Employee - Store Manager  in  Buffalo, NY (US)
Current Employee - Store Manager in Buffalo, NY (US)

    Pros

Salary, being able to write your own schedule, creating meaningful relationships with your staff and customers, gaining experience in many aspects of retail - inventory management, human resources, asset protection, etc. The opportunity to make decisions for your store whether it be hiring, merchandising, etc. is wonderful and really makes you feel successful at the end of the day.

    Cons

The company does not put the focus on or allocate resources for maintenance upkeep in stores. There is too much of a battle to get things fixed. Otherwise, I have no complaints. Payroll is tight, sure, but if you take the time to build the right team and create a fun working environment then it is fine. When I took my store over sure I put in several 60-70 hour weeks to get the store up to snuff and build my team. Today, I never work over 52 hours a week and do it in 5 days. It is all about how you write the schedule, maximize your time in the building, and stop complaining about the work that needs to be done and just do it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more time to really get to know and invest in your store teams. Also, put yourself in the customer's shoes and take a look at what many of the physical conditions of our stores look like. It is not pretty. Invest in regular store maintenance and take care of the stores we have before opening any new stores. Hopefully these things will change once Dollar Tree comes in.

    Pros

Open environment for managers to coach their teams for outstanding performance through flexible accountability.

    Cons

Too many issues with open communication from corporate with regards to budgets and volume.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work to increase the level of communication from the corporate team. Also find ways to arm the management teams with as much information as possible. We need to give a more detailed report to the supply chain network as to volume estimates and anticipated volume spikes.

    Pros

Hard work and performance paid off with comparable bonuses at the store manager level.

    Cons

Steady performance means nothing if you have the wrong supervisor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current Employee - Allocator  in  Matthews, NC (US)
Current Employee - Allocator in Matthews, NC (US)

    Pros

401(k) matching, employee stock discount program, initiative based projects, management listens to concerns and attempts to help when possible. Open door policy actually means open door. I speak with my SPV on a regular basis in order to bounce ideas off him.

    Cons

Middle of the road pay, Lots of meetings, Semi-repetitive work. Not encouraged to try free lance projects very often. The systems FD uses are a bit outdated. Because of this, the company uses a lot of work arounds and excel based tools in order to keep existing outdated systems.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow employees to plan their own futures and guide them on the right moves to get them going there. Allow for a lifelong career plan and actually make it happen.
