    Pros

Work hard, play hard attitude. Amazing team. It is a great company to start with and grow. There were lot of opportunites to learn and develop your career.

    Cons

As the company grew, I think it slowly started losing its core values.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retain the culture.

I have been working at Experian Marketing Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great clients. Accessible senior management. Finally getting its act together on product and strategy

    Cons

Client Service leaders are stuck in the past. They only know email and long for the good old days. The VP of Client Service is holding everyone back and should be replaced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stick to your guns. The cross-channel plan is starting to work and all you need to do is get those boring, stuck in the mud Directors and VPs to get with the program

    Pros

Young and dynamic business with a great vision. Lots of opportunity to grow and develop your sales and business acumen. Career progression for anyone willing to put in the hard yards

    Cons

Experian is a very political place with lots of layers of management. Sometimes it feels like moving mountains to close deals and work with new clients.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep the young environment.

I have been working at Experian Marketing Services full-time

    Pros

Leadership, compensation, work-life balance. Very laid back and professional work environment. Able to work remotely or in-office, no set work hours. Do your job well and enjoy the perks.

    Cons

No real job security. I was excited at the prospect of growing with this company, but was laid off after 4 months of employment due to structural changes within the company, which took place just 2 weeks after I was hired. I didn't see it coming until the actual moment of the lay-off, as we were assured our jobs would not be at jeopardy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open and honest about changes in organization.

    Company Has Gone Downhill

I worked at Experian Marketing Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great start to your career--you can make what you want out of this job. You can be proactive in gaining knowledge as much as you want. You also do work with some really smart and talented people. The environment is very laid back/flexible--ability to work from home when needed, free food, casual office wear, dinner for staying late, free trips to annual Client Summit in Vegas. At one time (when the money was flowing), raises/promotions were high for the industry (which is probably why you have some lifers/people that have been there for 10+ years), but that has changed.

    Cons

The company has really fallen from grace. There has always been a lack of management leadership--30 year old's who ran up the ranks with no other career experience and massive favoritism. This company breeds the culture of promotion-hungry and entitled employees. The culture, albeit laid-back, is sometimes unbelievably unprofessional and immature. The senior management in the last year, however, is shocking. No communication, massive lay-offs, overworked staff, and ignored talent. Depending on your client, there can be lots of after-hours work support including weekends with no monetary compensation for these efforts. In fact, the salaries are no longer competitive with other jobs out in the field, despite the longer hours you work. Jobs have been outsourced to Costa Rica, leaving existing staff in a position to train teammates virtually and pick up extra work. The company also did not honor bonuses for people who voluntarily left before pay out, even though they worked the entire year. Overall, horrible way to run a business and a blatant disregard to put employees needs first. Business 101: happy employees, good reputation=growing business. Also, the technology is complete garbage--the existing application (they are investing all their money on a new product) is always down and there is constant limits to capabilities that you will not find in other ESPs. We always sold our value model on customer service since our technology was so bad. Now that they laid off half the employees and are stretching thin existing ones, that model is flawed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to retain existing talent--Your clients will thank you. Be more transparent with what's going on. It's like whisper down the lane with finding out company changes. Your reputation in the field is also suffering. Your lack of employee retention causes unhappy employees to leave, but these folks stay within the industry. Their bosses rely on their word of mouth/experiences--remember that.

Former Employee - Account Executive  in  Heredia (Costa Rica)
Former Employee - Account Executive in Heredia (Costa Rica)

I worked at Experian Marketing Services full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    -Private insurance.
    -Free coffee
    -Vacation flexibility
    -You choose your start date.

    Cons

    On getting hired
-They make you pee in a cup.
-The tests have nothing to do with the everyday functions of the job.
-Long process, they request letters from previous 5 companies you worked for.

    Job

-There's no communication between management in the US and in Costa Rica.
-There's no stablished training... you can start whenever, do shadowing and then go to training or the other way around.
-Each brand they handle is different so training is useless.
-It's not marketing, it's just making corrections on HTML code... there's no structure, if your senior peer does it in a certain way, that's the norm, you can't be creative or practical.
-For Hyatt hotels each mailing takes around 1 hour and a half, usually you have to correct 13... do the math.
-If for some reason you can't work extra hours it's pointed as lack of commitment, if you work extra hours without previous authorization you don't get paid for that time.
-Your supervisor won't even realize you are there on your first day but once your accounts are assigned be ready for micromanagement like never before... in the US, team leads in Costa Rica don't even know what's going on.
-Career opportunities are minimum since most employees just get promoted to seniors and there's no other way to go. Employees in the US have more chances since that's where management is.
-Their expectations are never ever met.

    Site

-No transportation offered eventhough the site is very far away.
-No cafeteria service, just tables and microwaves and you must bring your own fork.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs to be in the same office or both contries should be on the same page in regards to expectations.

I have been working at Experian Marketing Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    There were quite a few..
Most died off paying for unnecessary Sr.Directors positions or their mistakes.

    Cons

    Come one come all !!!

Need a lay over period for your financial job ?
    No problem Cheetahmail does that.

Are unskilled and want to be overpaid ?
    Yup.. Cheetahmail is the place.

Have a Director "friend" in Cheetahmail and have janitorial skills ?
You got it. A Sr.Director position is waiting for you.

Are from a certain unskilled financial ethnic group ?
Oh.. you must have missed the boat.. all of them already work here.
    No worries..
Cheetahmail will accomodate you even if there was no need for your position.

Are a Director type and need few new buzz words on your resume ?
    No problem..
No matter what stupid decisions you make, you'll alway come out a winner.

    But most important..

If you ever want to learn how to ruin one of the better companies that I worked for, stop by anytime.
For a month, 3 months or even half a year.

    Regards

I have been working at Experian Marketing Services full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Exposure to resources that will help you navigate the online marketing medium is the biggest plus. You have the opportunity to learn the industry from a client, project management and publishing perspective. If you are looking to start your career in the online marketing space I would give this place two years MAX. Don't waist your time beyond that unless they offer you a higher title.

    Cons

Unfortunately they do not know how to effectively use talented people. They do not know how to train effective managers which is VERY important when building teams that support the demands of very large companies. The company is going through some growing pains unfortunately have the highest impact on the many overworked and underpaid employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company really needs to put just as much energy into training their management and staff on their (sub par) application as they do on their employees, management and company culture. Take the pulse of your lowest paid and hardest working employees (AMs, SAMs and most CRMs) because they reflect fundamental issues with the company and work on making those changes. Get ahead of the problems and challenges instead of constantly trying to fix them after the fact.
