My time there was very educational, but you have to be willing to play politics to get anywhere.

Pros

Amazing associates. Great bonus package and benefits.

Cons

The political games that end up getting the associates pushed to the side. All levels of management even district level must remember the companies core values and code of conduct and not bend them to suit their needs.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your people, follow the core values and the code of conduct.

I have been working at The Home Depot part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Treat you like family, work hard and you will generally get ahead, great values and training options, Generally have the support of your managers and department supervisors to get what you need.

    Cons

Corporate changes all the time get confusing and complicated. Try to make things easier and usually make things worse! If cashiers are the most important part of the entire operation, why do they get paid the least amount? Yes they may be standing around all day, but that is because they are told they have to and they are not allowed to leave their stations. Also standing around hurts joints, muscles, and backs! Maybe they should get paid the same as floor associates or more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication!!! It is the key to everything! Corporate please pick an idea and stick with it. Stop changing everything around every week! Also, Allow each store to come up with their own creative and professional idea that reflects the people who work there! It is more interesting and makes working there more positive.

    Pros

Great pay and benefits. You can learn alot, opportunity for advancement if you are well liked and willing to move to different locations, depending on your managers you can feel appreciated and like you make a difference.

    Cons

The leadership of the company and leadership at the regional and district levels are very different. There is still an old boys club and it is all about who you are friends with, merit alone will get you no where. No work life balance, can be under appreciated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Open your eyes and listen, but then make your opinion too.Talk to the the front runners> the associates. There is alot of fear in the work place the higher up you go, if you are not "liked" or "in the club" it doesnt matter how well you preform. It doesnt do any good to communicate this, there is retaliation, your so called "leadership team" finds a way to get rid of people to "open opportunities" for others and then talk about all the opportunity for growth.
