I worked at Target part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Working overnight was good in that your supervisors and coworkers were approachable. The work environment was such that there's work to be done but your superiors aren't constantly looking over the shoulder. Not having to deal with customers for the vast majority of your shift is also a plus.

    Cons

The overnight hours are rough, the work can be strenuous, and, in general, Target's zealous anti-union attitude can be a bit offputting to some people. As it's a big team and you spend most of the time attending to your own duties, standing out can be difficult and as such you risk falling through the cracks as far as promotions are concerned.

I have been working at Target full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Target is a great company to work for. They offer great benefits and are extremely flexible with scheduling. You can learn a lot from working at Target and they have training programs that are affective whem implemented properly.

    Cons

It is very political at every level. It can be hard to move up within the company if you do not fit the stereotypical mold of an Executive. The pay for leaders who promoted from within the company is much lower than the people who are hired in as leaders from outside of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Honor your senior employees more and make sure that you are proactive about any hiring needs. Also slow down on promoting current Executives so quickly. Some are so focused on moving to the next level that they are not working in the present and helping to develop their subordinates that would like the opportunity and knowledge to promote as well.
