I have been working at Schlumberger full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good starting point especially for oil and gas.
    Awesome training, industry leader
    Ability to work internationally
    Promotion from within
    Culture of performance

    Cons

Very big and lots of bureaucracy.
Very long hours and rough lifestyle.
Time off is frowned upon and must be fought for.
They seem to be getting away from the meritocracy unintentionally as it seems anyone who fits a specific critical management demographic gets promoted quicker than more competent people.
It seems hours are longer than need be, I noticed lots of people stayed in the office very late however mostly just to "be seen" as opposed to actually get stuff done. Leads to culture with no work life balance when the opportunity exists.
Whatever segment you start in you will be stuck there unless you are willing to quit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of putting people in a specific segment they choose when they have no clue about the industry consider a rotational program at the start.
Provide somewhat of a "light at the end of the tunnel" for people working in high coefficient locations with rewarding them for going. If these assignments were seen as a leg up as opposed to just a requirement, maybe a "3 year assignment and then a relocation of choosing" system could work well.

I have been working at Schlumberger full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good money for fresh outs. Benefits and medical insurance. Good training courses. Good place to gain and experience in the industry.

    Cons

Mid level management is a mess. Work/life balance doesn't exist. Your work becomes your life. You basically sell yourself to the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to stick to People Technology Profit motto. Cuz now it seems that people is the last thing you take carry of.
