I have been working at San Jose State full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Stability, great knowledgeable colleagues, laid back, there's always tomorrow.

Cons

Bureaucracy almost always gets in the way. I don't understand the union's concept of placing certain staff members in random roles, simply to retain them as paid staff members.

    Pros

there is a lot of down time, but when there is a lot of work it isn't very complicated. If you know how to read, write, and count then anyone can do this job.

    Cons

Hours are only 7am to 5pm. You need to be organized 24/7.

I have been working at San Jose State full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Very open and diverse environment, the campus is beautiful and the focus on innovation is wonderful. I love the willingness of the City of San Jose to partner with the SJSU and what they accomplish when they work together.

    Cons

Limited personnel to provide services. Services and departments operate very independently; it can be difficult for unity and collaboration to occur between them. The walk from the parking garages to your actual office can be lengthy. :)
