Pros

RBS has a lot of strengths despite its terrible reputation. Some of the business units (notably Spot FX) are market leaders. Many of the strongest individuals have stuck it out since the financial crisis.

Cons

There is much government scrutiny over practices within the bank, probably more so than at other institutions. Bonuses are weak.

I have been working at Royal Bank of Scotland full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people and a "Blitz spirit" make it a generally enjoyable place to work
Other's leaving means there is good opportunities for "talent" in corporate banking.

    Cons

The bank is trying to become less international so more and more work/job opportunities is/are focussed on the UK.
The bank is still a long way behind peers in its appraoch and abilities. This means the pool of management who you think "I can really learn sometihng from them" is a little thin on the ground.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We are moving in the right direction even if it's a little heavy going right now. There is still a lot of dead wood from the old days around, look to prune sensibly.
