Pros

RBS has a lot of strengths despite its terrible reputation. Some of the business units (notably Spot FX) are market leaders. Many of the strongest individuals have stuck it out since the financial crisis.

Cons

There is much government scrutiny over practices within the bank, probably more so than at other institutions. Bonuses are weak.

Former Employee - Intern In Structuring in London, England (UK)

I worked at Royal Bank of Scotland as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The pay is excellent; the team-mates are down to earth and wiling to teach you lots, your average MD is not inaccessible.

    Cons

The company (to be fair, the industry as a whole) is not in the best of times. There is danger of the reduction of the workforce, present at all times. This will either motivate you lots, or will make your experience frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is an atmosphere of hidden trepidation to do with anticipation for further reductions in workforce. This is hardly a plus.
