Management seems to be divided into two camps. There are the old school guys and the guys that understand what young employees are looking for.

Former Employee - Principal Software Engineer in Tucson, AZ (US)

    I worked at Raytheon

    Pros

If you enjoy sitting at your desk killing time for months at a time, then this is the
place for you. On several occasions, I asked co-workers "has anyone told you
what we're suppose to be doing ?". The response was "No." Then, when
something finally came down the line ... Read "Cons"

    Cons

Very politically charged situation that has nothing to do with ability or accomplishments.
If you brown nose then, even though you can't figure out why your C++ code won't compile
on a Ada compiler, you can become a technical lead two years out of college. And if you
do try to actually excel, you had better do it in less than 50 lines of code or your thick fix
will set off an alarm and you'll be sent packing because you might jepordize the "truck
load of money backing up to there door." And since Arizona is a "right to work" state,
they can liable you and there is nothing that you can do about it. Where is 60 minutes
    when you need them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire yourselves and get people that have a clue about how to develop software that
does more than passes tests. And when you move, don't live anywhere that might
have to be defended by your missiles.
