Former Employee – worked at PetSmart part-time for less than a year
Pros – learning about/ handling MOST of the animals
Cons – low pay, variable hours, annoying customers, frequently scheduled to work in dept. alone (basically getting paid barely above min. wage to do the work of 2-3 people and expected to give excellent customer service at the same time), hamsters
Advice to Senior Management – start petcare/specialty out at a higher rate. the amount of physical labor required (weekly bedding changes/ scrubbing tanks/ feeding+ watering all animals in store/ administering medications etc...) to do the job on top of having to learn about not only all the animals in the store plus the products/habitats for them as well is way too much for min. wage and crappy hours.
