Pros

Tremendous amount of time and money put into personal development and training. Has one of the best internship programs developed for the financial services industry.

Cons

Hard recruiting environment-hard to attract good candidates, expect you to refer people to the career or rely on reps to refer you candidate and that doesn't happen easily.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so discriminatory when it comes to hiring recruiters. By far, the vast majority of recruiters are young, attractive women and their is a clear bias by management to keep it this way.

    Pros

    Accountability and direct exposure to the financial services field
    Potential for good commissions
    Allows you to get a good feel for what a great financial plan looks like and the strategies involved
    Business Coaching and mentoring
    Potential to engage with higher up management and continue to stay engaged with them

    Cons

    Money isn't there if you aren't selling
    Long hours
    Hard to start building your client base
    Getting all the licenses
    Sometimes you will run into license conflicts/

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Restructure compensation to salary and be stricter in regards to hiring interns. We don't need a high turnover rate for employees... We need to get people and keep them with the company, most interns now are using the experience as a stepping stone which is a huge cost to the company.

    I worked at Northwestern Mutual as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    Excellent Training program, really teach you their way and good prospecting
    Flexible Schedule as long as you are putting in the work, you get out what you put in

    Cons

    No forms of leads provided, want to prospect friends and family first and foremost. Difficult industry and looked down upon like a used car salesman

    Keep adapting and exposing reps to all aspects of the business
