I have been working at Nordstrom

Pros

Pay is excellent compared to other retail companies

Cons

No flexibilty when it comes to scheduliing
They rank co-workers against each other using the rankings as a means of distributing hours
Do as I say not as I do attitude of managemet
Favoritetism abounds

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Due away with the archaic system of ranking non commisioned employees against with other. It breeds contempt amongst co-workers who are supposed to work together as a team to carry-out the goals of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees when they give you their schedule prior to when you hire them. Especially for students who are working around a full-time student. Managers were often terrible and never listened to what employees requested and scheduled them when they clearly stated they could not work. Upper-management clearly lacked at training and needs to do a better job at highlight to their manager's what is of key importance to a manager and having a successful team.

    Rankings suck

    I worked at Nordstrom

    Pros

Pay is alright. Discount alright but could be better.

    Cons

There are always opportunities because the company has a high turnover. Ranking system sucks. If your direct manager has a personal grudge, feels that you are not prepared to do the job when you are, or doesnt like you then it can affect your movement in the company. It would be nice if given a trial run but this doesnt happen. Politics politics in this company.
