I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The company is very supportive in both emergencies and savings. HR is very helpful and effective. It's the only place I know of that such a grand career could exist in every level of employment.

    Cons

Retail is a terrible choice in life-long careers. Nordstrom may be the best place to do it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fashion is important to some people, but not to everyone. It should not determine whether a person is promoted over a hard worker.

I have been working at Nordstrom full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for advancement and relocation. Interesting job functions. Attractive and comfortable environment. A lack of formal education does not hold you back; at least at the store level. You can directly affect your earnings with selling more and bonuses resulting from successful business. You are given a lot of freedom to run your business and no micro managing. Great experience that will develop your skill set as a manager. Employee discount; managers receive 33% off.

    Cons

Retail schedule is not ideal. You will work almost every Saturday, at least one Sunday per month, and one closing shift per week. You have to spend money on work clothes that you will not wear anywhere else; depending on your department. Money is only alright until you surpass the Department Manager level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allowing Managers to take off two consecutive day would be an improvement; especially Sunday and Monday.
