I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Discount, luxury retail environment, great vendors, great product

Cons

Poor management, HR does not address problems as they arise, buyers can treat assistant buyers however they want as long as their business is upward moving. Little room for growth/movement. Extremely high turnover rate and loss of talent to other retail companies.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to surveys and employee feedback and actually do something about the issues instead of ignoring them. $10 starbucks cards are not enough recognition to keep people around when they can get a 50% salary increase to go to JCP and be treated well by management and empowered to excel in their position.

I worked at Neiman Marcus full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Flexible scheduling
    Laid back environment (certain departments)
    Co-workers were nice

    Cons

Sales support staff constantly overlooked for advancement and recognition( we're expected to bow-down to upper management/top sellers.
DON'T expect to move in the company unless you're a TOP sales person or in the EDP program.
Moving up at times seems to be based on how well you are liked.
Communication is terrible and some people shirk responsibilty. Very much a "he/she did it attitude".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication needs to be better. People of this generation want opportunities for advancement and don't want to work years and years before being able to move forward. You will constantly have high turnover if this isn't addressed.
