I have been working at Motorola Mobility full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Terrific people at the engineering level. People are helpful, enjoy what they do. Benefits are roughly competitive. Possible to achieve good work/life balance. Nice facility.

    Cons

Too much emphasis by remote managers on "not being surprised" by anything, so they can look knowledgeable in their meetings. As a result, more time is spent relaying information in weekly/monthly status reporting then actually solving the problems. Remote managers on the east coast can be clueless to what goes on at other locations outside their immediate area. Clear "buddy-buddy" system on east coast, so look out when layoffs come. Future of Homes business uncertain with Google takeover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote a culture where everyone can share information across all levels, rather than being conduits. Directors should share the limelight with the people that actually do the work.
