Former Employee - Subcontract Administrator in Sunnyvale, CA (US)

I worked at Lockheed Martin

Pros

Work life balance. Every other Friday off, even if you don't take them you can earn the overtime or comptime.

Stable, when things are great elsewhere they are only ok at Lockheed Martin and, when things are poor elsewhere they are still ok at Lockheed Martin.

Usually a place where if you are competent you can work there for the rest of your life.

Cons

Not a place to go unless you are an engineer. This is an engineering company and always will be and non engineers will always be at a disadvantage when it comes to moving past the Senior Management position

Low pay com, low level of advancement for new and younger employees.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less Engineers in Program Management

I have been working at Lockheed Martin

    Pros

Lateral movement within the company is no only easy, but encouraged. However one has to take the initiative in this.

Deep IT infrastructure for every facet of employment from Benefits Enrollment to retirement savings management.

    Full or partial tuition reimbursement

    Cons

Is very by the book in terms of vertical movement. Hard and fast rules about minimum years of experience for each level of employment.

As a large, very large company, roles and responsibilities can be very compartmentalized with a narrow focus. Changing one's scenery often means changing to another job on another team.

Reach out even more to younger employees

Not a bad place to spend 8 hours a day.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin

    Pros

Flexibility, advancement opportunities and wide variety of assignment possibilities.

    Cons

Program management lack customer and corporate vision and at times appears clueless or uninterested in customer needs or wants, much less the needs and wants of Lockheed Martin employees. This does not, however, include immediate managers who seem to have a better understanding of both customers and direct reports.
