Pros

Great learning experience, technical knowledge, professional skills, opens doors for follow-on career opportunities. Well connected internationally, and good opportunities for learning outside your core function.

Cons

Politics is not bad, but your fate can depend on one person. Performance management has room for improvement as grading system puts 80-90% of people in "average" rank. Managers may be reviewed by Sr. managers, which is almost similar to being reviewed by your peers - huge conflict of interest.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in senior leadership. Do not promote someone to partner or director, just because warm body is needed in that corner office.

    Pros

KPMG offers people right out of college a career with many of the their peers, which is a very young group to work with. PTO is great as well as pay for an entry level position.

    Cons

Those that work hard ultimately suffer as they tend to get overloaded with clients and ultimately don't have any sort of 'work-life balance'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to track people's schedules and make sure they are appropriately balanced, as the same people can skate by doing minimal work, while the few carry the load for the rest of the team.

    Pros

As far a public accounting firms go, KPMG is a great place to work. Compensation is in line with three other "big four" firms and includes an excellent benefits package include health, dental, fitness reimbursements, etc.
There is a strong culture in place with plenty of opportunity for personal and professional development.

    Cons

The nature of public company auditing means that depending on the clients you serve there is basically no work life balance from December to March (if you serve retail clients with Dec 31 YE). you can easily end up working 12-16 hrs a day six days a week during that period.
Considering the hours worked, base pay is not in line with can be earned in industry, and bonuses are almost non-existent until you make manager.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior management generally does a good job of communicating to employees and supporting their development.
