I have been working at GE

Pros

In general management is very good. There are a lot of training opportunities within the company for individual contributors. Pay seems ok.

Cons

Offshore IT folks are a disaster, GE gets the cheapest offshore folks they can, projects often take 10 times the time they should. Healthcare benifits are really poor for a large company having a baby is very expensive.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the IT software development processes. In my experience this is more a matter of getting the right peopel then new initiaves. Reduce the buerarcracy

    I worked at GE

    Pros

As much as some employers claim to offer internships with "meaningful work", GE is one of the few where a college student can actually leave with an understanding of the impact they made, makes it feel much more worthwhile.

    Cons

Internship quality can vary somewhat depending on assignments, but then again so can any other job. Slightly lower pay for a CS student than a straight up programming gig, but worth it if you don't want to be stuck at the same desk all day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Program might be improved through increased communication between assignment leaders and the program heads.
