I have been working at Freescale Semiconductor full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great talent and technology. Very impressed with the new CEO. If you are eating in the cafe, he may walk up and ask to join you. You also see him walking in the halls and visiting people. Also some nice gestures like selling the corporate jet, eliminating reserved parking for senior managers, and work to refresh aging facilities and office spaces. Hopefully this translates to improvements in the areas of compensation, rewards, and upward mobility that have been a huge problem in the past.
Great work-life balance if you have the right immediate supervisor. Lots of opportunities to work from home or flexible schedules, as long as your manager is on board with it.

    Cons

Going on 3 years with no merit increases, and no bonus payout for the last 5 bonus cycles. This resulted in huge amounts of attrition over the last 12 months as people have moved companies to get competitive pay. This needs to change or the company will lose all top talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees need to be rewarded. Merit increases and promotions cannot be the first thing that gets yanked at the first sign of a downturn, and the last thing to be reinstated in the good times. Bonus goals need to be published from the beginning, and they need to be attainable, instead of mysterious numbers that only senior managers know what they are so they can tell employees every six months that the goals have not been met.
