Information Technology at ExxonMobil

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Pays well, opportunity for travel

Cons

Very bureaucratic and boring. Focus on process rather than product. Best to do nothing rather than do something wrong. The secret to success is to be totally hands off. Overrun with administrators and advisors. For every person doing work, there is someone watching them. Over the years they have become erratic. At one point they set long term strategies, now they seem to swing wildly. One day it's an extreme process orientation, next day, cut costs, next day security and controls.

I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

As the largest OIL procurer in the world. Exxon is a example of what it means to make the best of present energy reserves. With the advent of alternative energies long in the horizon. Companies like these are essentil.

    Cons

Regulatory and attention to safety has not favors EXXON in the past. Although Government intervention seem half reactionary by FEMA. In short it is a collective response should things go wrong. in response should something go wrong. OIL is not a full proof effort by any means and despite the result of spillage. More should be done by all Oil companies to mitigate the damages if they should occur.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is in the interest give the obscene profits for EXXON to rely on itself in the event of a spillage. It is not Rocket Science to put in place that which would circumvent FEMA or reduce they involvement. provided EXXON has a plan to sacrifice its profits to do so. No more should resident stomach the BP fiaso. it is a chance to elevate at least EXXON's view in the world. I am a Canadian employee of a subsidiary of EXXON by way or Imperial oil....thank you.
