I have been working at ExxonMobil

Pros

This companies has many opportunities for you to broaden your experience and knowledge. Mostly engineering/science backgrounds start out at the bottom and work their way into the business and management areas or stay in the technical. Strong (and often times, obsessive) emphasis on employee health/safety and environmental awareness. Excellent training provided.

Cons

As with many large companies there are many layers of bureaucracy. Lots of paperwork and red-tape to get things done.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication is great but would encourage further communication between management and employees at all levels. Invest in the young scientists and engineers and develop young talent quicker. The younger employees have more tools at their disposal to learn faster.

I have been working at ExxonMobil

    Pros

Financial stability. Excellent retirement benefits. Great salary increases during the first two years of service. Discplined approach to every activity.

    Cons

Forced performance management system that destroys morale. Superiority complex of company that spills over to employees. Lip service given to workplace flexibility when in reality it does not really exist. Overly process oriented. No domestic partner benefits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In its attempt to be the best at every metric, Exxon Mobil has succeeded at being mediocre to poor at managing people. The corporation needs to realize that we live in a 21st century world that requires a diverse workforce from all different backgrounds. The needs of these employees are very different from those of 1950s America.
