I worked at Coinstar full-time for less than a year

Pros

The pay is very good compared to the work

Cons

The company has no solid direction. There are teams of 12 people with 4 to 5 managers.
Very HR top heavy. There were at least 3 HR reps for my department of less than 15 people.
No career advancement. Management and HR talked nonstop about how employees needed a clear career path but when anyone tried to establish a way to make it happen they were shot down in endless meetings.
To many egos to get anything done. People will completely kill projects simply because they didn't think of it. There is way too much political drama.
No one wants to take accountability for decisions and employees pay the price.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead your teams. Management tends to step back and be too hands off. There is very little direction and management is often invisible unless something is wrong and then it's just a big exercise in C.Y.A.

Doesn't Recommend
Negative Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Coinstar

    Pros

    Good benefits
    Ok pay
    Great bonus program
    Nice offices

    Cons

    No career advancement
Lots of fingerpointing and no accountability
Original culture of redbox is gone
Employee morale is at all time low and people are leaving in herds
Lots of questionable activities and treatment in multiple functional areas
New hires are brought in without any direct experience and treat employees like they are incompetent
No advancement for high performers, only promos go to people who can kiss up, but had inadequate technical and people skills
Why does everyone in Management think PIP's are necessary? If someone isn't a fit, let them go. I've never seen such a demanding, ego boosting and inappropriate process. Certain members of management continue to abuse this process to cover up for their inadequacies and to cover their behinds.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need a serious development and career enhancement program. Online learning classes don't work. There is little to no movement for folks who want to grow within the company or within other groups. When members of management say things that make you think, probe further to see what you are really dealing with. Not everyone in positions of trust are playing with a full deck or are acting in the best interests of the company.
