    Pros

Lots of rewards for top performers. Learning and adapting to change are encouraged.

    Cons

Lots of work for everyone. Work-life balance is not always honored. If your work is valued, the more hours you put in, the better rating you can get.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice work-life balance, encourage it, model it.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Cisco is a world-class organization with extraordinary people and opportunities. There is no shortage of challenge and opportunities can follow demonstrated performance -- particularly if located in San Jose, CA

    Cons

Despite its global foot-print, Cisco remains a San Jose centric company from a leadership standpoint and --despite best-in-class collaboration technologies in its product portfolio -- opportunity standpoint. The company is trying to re-establish geographic proximity of colleagues to align with MIT viewpoint on Agile PLM framework. This is beyond silly on a campus where over 40 buildings and back-to-back meetings have employees calling in and WEBEX'ing into meetings where folks are in the same area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

1.) get over co-location. It cannot scale.
2.) stop chasing HP to the bottom. Cisco will irreparably break if Mgmt tried to get to HP numbers. Focus needs to change to being best metrics per segment space and lose focus on overall GM.
3.) announce a meaningful retirement plan for Chambers and Pond and stick to them.
