I worked at Big 5 part-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Very much a team environment and everyone gets along really well. Upper management is fantastic and always willing to help out their employees.

Cons

Retail in itself is a hard job. Customers, for the most part, aren't that great.
Sometimes management takes a while to give reviews and raises.

I have been working at Big 5 full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

decent starting out first time job

    Cons

low pay business dress code no set schedules poor life balance bad training

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the training to the new century, a training guide written in 1986 is not at all helpful in today's world. Ditch the 1950's dress code, your motto is "selling sporting goods is fun". It's not fun when you're in a dress shirt and tie. Try treating your store managers with respect. Saving a buck at the expense of you employees is bad business.
