Actually listen to your employees, don't just blow us off with empty promises. I only worked there for about 7 months but management was insane, expecting something different doing the exact same thing every day

    I have been working at Best Buy full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Best Buy is the giant of the American consumer electronics marketplace. One third of all electronics purchases are made with Best Buy. The company has been making radical changes to improve customer/client satisfaction, including straightforward pricing, mandatory sales training for existing and new employees, and the ability to price-match its most heated competitors, including major Web sites, such as Amazon.com, Walmart.com, Newegg.com, etc. As a sales consultant, I have worked in digital imaging, video games and computing and tablets. The focus throughout all is to help customers leave the store with everything they need - nothing less, nothing more, without being a pushy "shark" type of salesperson. Jobs are not commission-based, so it can be a little disheartening to realize that if the same jobs are done at commission-base employers, you could really roll in the dough. Always be sure to recommend Geek Squad Protection when available, as well as Geek Squad Services (Tech Support is a huge one!) - because that is what helps make your store (and the company) money. The more revenue your store makes, the more likely you'll get a nice bonus at the end of the month!

    Cons

    Retail hours have you working all over the clock, so forget about that 9-5 steady routine. You'll be doing 7-3, 10-6, 12-8, 1-9, 2-10:30 and everything in between in no logical order. If you're full-time, you are required to get no less than 36 hours a week, meaning you get two days off each week, and they usually are not consecutive. Your off days might be Monday and Thursday, or Tuesday and Friday, or maybe every once in a while you'll get a Wednesday and Thursday off. Next weekend I've got a Friday and Saturday off, and this is the first time that has happened since last summer. If your hours don't matter (like me) - and you just want to work to make some money, then Best Buy is great. If you're a tech geek you'll love it, because you're surrounded by the latest, greatest devices all the time. Sometimes the demos don't work, so it's frustrating explaining this to customers, and then there's the customers --- you get all types. Experts who know much, much more than you do, to complete tech virgins who need you to hold their hand and explain everything in as common a terminology as possible. If you don't like dealing with people, maybe you can get a job working in inventory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stay off of the backs of your long-time, top-earners. If they don't feel like they need to carry around a CEW (Customer Experience Worksheet) and fill it out on every single transaction until they know they're actually going to make a sale or if the customers is genuinely interested in making a future purchase, then don't flip out on them for not carrying it around. Reward your top earners with trust and a bit of freedom to do what works best for them.
