I have been working at Best Buy Canada

Pros

You'll meet and work with great people within your department.
It really is a team environment.

Cons

Management doesn't seem to know what they want.
One minute they'll ask you to meet certain criteria and the next minute they'll punish you for meeting the same criteria they just asked you to complete.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of hiring managers externally who go on power trips and don't understand the full rules of the store, why not try to train and promote internally?
A manager whose been properly trained and worked in the store from Day 1 will be more effective than somebody who has experience from a competing name brand.

Good for students, or the discount. Avoid as a career.

    Pros

The discounts are good, the staff are young and energetic. A good job for a student.

    Cons

The customers suck, if you're not a key employee managers treat you poorly.

I worked at Best Buy Canada part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Huge variety of merchandise (especially online).
Great staff discounts (depends on brand).
South Vancouver is one of the cleanest, brightest locations.
Non commission for sales persons (reduces a LOT of pressure when talking to people).
As of January 2015, South Van's management team are great people, not just employers.
My manager did notice my strengths were not in sales, so I was moved to product process, and had very little discomfort with the work that was asked of me.

    Cons

I was very unhappy in a sales position (for personal reasons).
Sales reps must have a very broad knowledge of technology to feel comfortable answering customers, and even after months of work might feel blindsided by some questions.
You should expect to ask a lot of questions and teach yourself about processes if you want to do a better job, no hand-holding (not unique to this company, not a huge con)
