“Depends on who you know”
Current Employee – been working at Barclays
Pros – Pretty relaxed for a financial firm. Work is easy. Good opportunity for advancement in the UK.
Cons – The focus on meritocracy is really a sham. Promotions have more to do with who you know and how long you've been around. Equities are decent, but across the majority of the internal engineering organization - most of the talent has already walked out the door. XP desktops are still the norm.
Advice to Senior Management – A better focus on well thought out technical leadership and modern technologies would be a welcome change
