It is all about the company and very little about the employee.

Pros

Management knows the way to get the best profit for the company. Great sales force that gets the products sold to the customers.

Cons

Non-Silicon Valley working culture. One way communication from the top. Recognition is minimal. No performance review. Employees are not shared with the company direction and vision. Upper management doesn't seem to be interested in employee feedback. Employees are assigned with tasks as it goes and told to work on them with no question asked, and yet, direction changes often and is confusing.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Besides selling the product, spend some time to listen more to all employee feedback.

    Pros

Above industry average compensation, good benefits, core product is strong, good brand name recognition

    Cons

unusually closed corporate culture, minimum communication from senior and mid-management to the field team, very tactical field management, no sales territories, multiple reps will be frequently chasing the same account

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

By adopting more mainstream management and field organization structure you can grow this business much further.

I have been working at Autonomy

    Pros

-The too good to be true comp plan. Some folks do make a few bucks in Sales (but I have never met any)
-The folks at the bottom with you are good folks while they last
-Free lunch in SF office on Friday
-Free soft drinks in all field offices

    Cons

-There is no defined territory or definition of the products sold. Many reps will fight over a deal and an account. Sometimes other reps will show up unannounced to meetings.
-Terrible support of products - it is catching up to
-You are just an order taker for Autonomy in sales. They could care less if you leave or get fired and you should be lucky to have a job with Autonomy.
-Micromanagement beyond belief. They have "Efficiency Experts" who will track your activity then call your customers to see if you actually met with them.
-The "old guard" at top are the only ones who have any future in the company. At the bottom most are lucky to stick around for a year. Even then most will only stay until their territory runs dry and move on.
-Better expect to have a pipeline that meets or beats your quota after your first quarter. Or get a new job.
-Even the top customer know you are only around for a while. Some accounts have seen 3-4 reps turn over in a year.
-Top Management has ZERO sales experience and skills. yet they will run the weekly pipeline call. The next level of management have zero customer respect and little value to you other than to screw up your deals in the field. Middle management is just as worthless.
-Independent recruiters even know how much of a joke Autonomy is and will stay away.
-Management will send you emails that talk to you like a child. Nasty threatening emails that are not professional or motivating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership at Autonomy does not care and thus not worth mentioning here. I did not believe it could be this bad. It is much worse and really wonder how a company can be run in such a manner. It will be interesting to watch Autonomy in the long run. They have a bad reputation in the market. The software is showing its age and starting to crack. Autonomy has start run out of good sales individuals to recruit. Only time will tell.
