    Pros

    Great place to start a career and learn about business. The culture is inviting and helpful. Questions are usually welcomed, so all can learn quickly. Short commutes and no traffic if you live and work in Kingsport.

    Cons

    Not much cultural or ethnic diversity in Kingsport. Hard to move up the ranks at Eastman if you don't have a supportive first-line supervisor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't put so much emphasis on "experienced" hires. You're missing great talent right under your nose to bring in expensive hires who might not even be a good fit.

    Pros

    The company is very ethical and generous and has a great culture. They are very family oriented and allow for a flexibl work schedule. The employees have a great mentality and work ethic. There is a lot of room for advancement and diverse jobs that can be taken.

    Cons

    The vision for the company is getting away from being proud of the number of employees to becoming a lean machine.

    Pros

    Supervision is fare and work is evenly distributed. There are different shifts available to work which helps when it comes to the needs of your family. Just a few of the perks include paid holidays, one personal day, paid vacation. You are also given opportunities to grow. The company is community-oriented and volunteer work is encouraged. Heatlhy living and exercise are encouraged also. There are facilties available for exercise.

    Cons

    In my department, those with senority get to choose what area and what shift they so choose to work in each year. This makes it hard for those who are newer employees to have to adjust their schedules and balance family/child care needs yearly. However, this is a perk for those who have senority.

    More frequent hands-on reminder training for specific issues would be helpful.

    Pros

    The culture of Eastman is wonderful. They are very family-oriented, allow flexible work schedules, and go above and beyond the normal to ensure their employees are well taken care of, from the health benefits to the culture of safety. The area around Eastman is beautiful and provides a long list of activities to do for outdoors people.

    Sometimes the documentation processes are long and difficult to complete in a timely manner.

    Try to get out among your employees and establish a relationship with each. It allows the employees to know you are approachable and they can come to you with concerns or suggestions.

    I have been working at Eastman Chemical full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    Most employees are highly ethical and work with the company's best interest in mind-this has led to the supportive, collaborative culture we have. We hire well-employee competency is really high, and the turnover is low. It's fantastic to have lots of career options in the same company (no moving)-I've had multiple roles over a decade+ with continued opportunities. Training opportunities abound. The corporate headquarters, Kingsport, is in a small city, which is a huge pro if you dislike traffic and like easy access to nature.

    Cons

    Compensation increases are fairly minimal-in line with whatever GDP growth is, the low turnover gives HR little incentive to do more. There are typical politics that go into selecting leaders, and those choices are rarely based on contribution/experience/skills in managing people-more on who you impress early in your career (first year or two).

    Pros

    Worked 20 years in production which was a challenging, yet rewarding experience. Was allowed to go back to school to work toward being Lab tech certified. Since then have even been more challenged. Very interesting job working for the last 2 years in this part of the company.

    Cons

    Seems like there is a point in ones career that it does not pay to attempt to improve. Upon being promoted, was informed of being cut in pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Opportunities for advancement for employees with many years of service needs to be easier to understand. Examples: Pay, rate of advancement in new job, clearer expectations. Be more open and honest.

    Pros

    They pay you every two weeks ($31.46 hour Operator)... Small yearly bonus (some years)... Bare bones health insurance... 40 hours of paid vacation each year...

    Cons

    Company is ran by racist homophobic goof old boys!!! Few opportunities for advancement unless you related to someone in a position of power. Forced to work an insane amount of overtime due to manpower shortages. Lower than average pay. Operators and Maintenance workers are not valued by the company. Day workers and office personnel are given priority within the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgendered employees are openly discriminated against by Eastman Chemical. Same sex spouses are excluded from insurance. Also, employees with same sex spouses are excluded from emergency leave and excluded from bereavement leave. It will be challenging for Eastman Chemical to recruit and retain the best and brightest employees until all employees are welcome and included!!!
    Very poor work-life balance at Texas Eastman for Operations due to manpower shortages. Operators are required to work insane hours of overtime and are forced to transition from days to nights within 24 hour periods. It is not uncommon to have one one day off per month while working 12 hour rotating shifts.
    Eastman Chemical has no mentoring programs and unless an employee is related to someone in power that have zero chance for advancement.

    Community oriented and encourage employees to volunteer in the community
    If you are not happy with your current position or supervision, just wait because everyone changes positions every 1-2 years

    Cons

    People hire in right out of school and stay so not a lot of fresh ideas from employees that have worked at other companies - it is the Eastman way or the highway
    Very bureaucratic and political environment - must notify multiple layers and departments for any decision

    Changes in HR approach is creating a very negative atmosphere where employees are no longer willing to help each other because they know they are being ranked with the peers

    Pros

    Hardworking employees. Ready to help and to share their knowledge. Commited to completion of the task.

    Cons

    CPFilms of Eastman (Martinsville) is a relatively new acquisition of Eastman. R&D at CPFilms is currently headed not by creative people, but by “extremely experienced” with the lack of new ideas. The work is reduced to multiple meetings. There are useful comments at such meetings but no technical leadership.

    Hiring of graduates from prominent colleges with 5-10 years of industrial experience would be a great change in R&D leadership
