    Pros

The people are the best thing about working at Eastman! It's a supportive network that will help you learn and grow throughout your career. They genuinely care about your development. Ethical Chemical company isn't an oxymoron here. There's a big emphasis on safety and the sustainability movement is growing.

    Cons

It seems to be difficult to attract diversity to the area, where more than 95% of the Tri-Cities area consists of non-hispanic whites.

    Pros

Very positive working environment, excellent prospects for advancement across businesses, forward-looking management, strong technical competencies, seen as a valuable business partner with customers

    Cons

Still quite a bit of the old boys network in existence, but decreasing little by little. Healthcare costs are increasing and we are feeling it, especially with the "consumer driven healthcare plans"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be sure to consider how all levels of employees live and are compensated. Open up decision-making processes more and more to alleviate the feeling of back-room deals/decisions.

    Pros

Eastman treats its employees very well. A healthy balance between work and family is encouraged. The company cares about your health and your well-being. Management is accessible. In general, Eastman employees are very nice people with a positive and helpful attitude.

    Cons

The company is becoming more and more global, which presents challenges as we try to support the worldwide company. Travel is becoming more and more common.

    Pros

co-workers and supervisors care about your feedback, they give back to the community, they have health incentives example: they reimburst a qualifying gym cost, they're big on having a safe work environment, "they want you to leave work the same as you came in".

    Cons

lot of mandatory overtime, slim chance of changing departments(job) they only give two chances per year, 12 hour swingshift (get every other weekend off),

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

keep up the good work, need to create more automation machines (Martinsville Va site)

I have been working at Eastman Chemical full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Eastman provides many tools to help you succeed including multiple training courses and opportuniites to suggest new courses where needed. The experience of the technical staff at Eastman is vast and will help drive success for future product development. Flexible schedules are common with the expectation you will get the job done. I can't say enough about the willingness of people to help you succeed. It really is a team effort where projects are involved. Everyone works together to make new ideas and projects be successful.

    Cons

Starting in 2015, everyone will change to high-deductible healthcare plans. The high-deductible plans, although a normal part of benefits for most companies now, are often more costly with less patient benefits.

I have been working at Eastman Chemical full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Although I've heard it wasn't always this way, the current Eastman culture is warm and inviting. It really is a pleasure to work with people who are kind, considerate, competent, humble... the list goes on and on. Compensation is far above what fellow college alums have shared with me, and to me that's a tangible reinforcement that Eastman highly values their employees and desires to keep them for years.

    Cons

Insufficient documentation of past projects can be frustrating at times, but that's to be expected with a 60-year-old plant.

I have been working at Eastman Chemical full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I think Management has done a god job positioning the company so that it can prosper and provide stable employment for the forseeable future. The company is full of people that want to work and do a good job and the teamwork you see is excellent. The compensation, both monetary and benefits, combined wih the low cost of living at the Headquarters site provides a vey comfortable life. The company takes Safety seriously.

    Cons

The company places a lot of credence in getting input on decisions and courses of action. While that can lead to better decisions, it can get frustrating waiting for and getting the input.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the culture and work ethic of the people and don't feel like you have to implement the HRA trends from other companies

I have been working at Eastman Chemical full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The employees have a strong work ethic with a focus on working safely.

    Cons

As seems to be a trend across the industry, benefits have declined over the years. Ultimate insurance costs for the employee continues to rise while compensation for the average employee seems to struggle to keep up with the escalating cost of living.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain a strong focus on benefits and compensation for all employees. These two items will determine our ability to continue to attract and maintain top talent.
