Former Employee - Materials Control Specialist in Kandahar (Iran)

    Pros

Only the pay was good but not on Par with other companies doing defense contacting

    Cons

I worked for them for 2 years until April 2014 I worked in Kandahar and Camp Leatherneck.
I found a lot of Racism , A lot of favoritism, a lot of incompetence especially among management.
They had a policy of anti- American hiring quota's and practices.
They strived for 80% Foreign nationals and 20 % Americans. I found that to be unacceptable since they were billing the US government for that and the US taxpayer had to foot the bill.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get Rid of your racism, get rid of your favoritism, Hire Americans first and offer Americans some better living conditions and better pay. Most of all put people in management that are qualified and have college degrees.
and don't tell me I am a liar because I was there and saw it first hand.

Current Employee - Heavy Wheel Mechanic in Fort Bliss, TX (US)

    Pros

The pay is still higher than most positions in el paso of the same skill set.

    Cons

as far as contractor work goes, the pay is on the low end. Provided benefits will cost you a third of your pay check. Supervision is fifty fifty on getting a competent supervisor or not. Will get laid off soon after hire due to poor hiring schedules.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out who are your best assets, and do not lay them off, especially when they have more time working for you than others recently hired for the same position.

Hire competent leads to do the job. The lead should be able to handle all tasks assigned to them, and not bend the rules for coworkers they are friends with.

    Pros

A great opportunity to develop work in different areas of the company

    Cons

Management needs more leadership skills and people skills before making judgement calls on a business/personal matters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to be more aware of the policy and procedures they put in place for the company and employees not just a certain race or group of people. Management needs to be aware of the political games of there Managers they have on the ground instead of investigating the matter on there own.

Current Employee - Senior Accountant in Fort Worth, TX (US)

    Pros

There are opportunities for advancement if you are ambitious, smart and willing to work hard. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Government contractors experienced massive growth during the Bush years and now the cycle has turned. Currently in 2014 this is a very challenged sector with downsizing occurring on an ongoing basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Information and knowledge is very compartmentalized and difficult to obtain, creating an inefficient work environment and often inconsistent results. A greater emphasis should be placed on leveraging the knowledge of SMEs who can greatly reduce the learning curve for more inexperienced or temporary staff.
