  1. The constant changing of politics was not friendly. It was very hard to work here after 18 months.

    Pros

I really enjoyed working with the people, some customers even wrote letters to the management staff and told them how helpful I was.

    Cons

They did send me home when my sister died. It was just difficult to follow the politics from one day to the next.

    Pros

great discount on clothes 40% reg, 20% sale. good flexibility with schedule. 95% of customers are great, 50% are regulars and l5% become friends! in my store the mangers are good and listen to you.

    Cons

i have worked @ DB PT for over 10 yrs. my pay when i started was $7/hr. it's now $9.40. i have always said DB is cheap.

    Advice to Management

i think now that we are a public company all the managers in the store should get bonuses when we meet our sales goals. i think we are making lots of changes at one time and it's hard to keep up with them all. some changes are just cosmetic and can wait until we get used to prior ones. This new company philosophy isn't very practical in everyday store operations. District mangers no longer give advice on how a store is run, just give encouragement? store leaders don't do anything except promote sales and encourage staff calling mangers leaders saying we can run the store as we wish yet we can't cater our store hrs to our customer base.

  3. Too much work and stress for the small amount of money you make. Good discount on clothing though.

    Pros

It had a good culture until they started bringing in to many new people who wanted to change how business was done. Good work life balance.

    Cons

New people put down the people who were there for years. The environment was so toxic. Dressbarn takes on to many new projects and doesn't focus on getting any of them right. The pay was horrible if you were there for a long time.

    Advice to Management

Don't go to far away from what made Dress Barn a good place to work. Don't use the new building as facade of something great when it is so messed up internally. Start focusing on your people again and then business will turn around.

    Pros

    Adaptable work hours
    Training offered to develop skills
    Fast paced
    Great employee discount
Like a boutique with focus on customer experience

    Cons

A person cannot live on the full time income provided so must have a secondary job to cover basic bills
    The "work" is never done
We do it all, floor setting, merchandising, shipment, all while driving the sales

    Advice to Management

May have less turn over from management if the pay were more in align with the responsibilities

    Pros

-Discount. You recieve 20% off sale items and 40% off regular priced items

    Cons

-Hours is only guaranteed to the managers not even the Full Timers have guaranteed hours
-Customers allowed to get away with anything and everything while manager just stands there and watch
-Very low pay and if you do get a raise you are lucky to get .20 cents
-When there is a issue with an employees behavior it takes forever for the situation to be worked through the proper channels for the employee to be reprimanded.
-Gossip within the store, within the district.
-More about looks then work ethic
    -Weak managers
-A lot of times people are allowed to not work as hard as others because they fit the physical image Dress Barn wants to promote

    Advice to Management

Learn what it means to really inspire your team. Having the title of manager doesn't make you a good manager. I really don't think higher ups know exactly what goes on in the stores. But I do hear not all the locations are like this. I guess I lucked out.
