I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

--The people I work with are amazing. Smart, motivated, and willing to work together.
--Opportunities grow on trees. Want training? Here you go! Want to lead an effort? Have at it!
--Senior leadership is generally pretty approachable.

    Cons

--If you're on the "PPD Track," you are required to put in hours outside your project work on "firm activities." It can feel like a lot, and it can feel like a distraction from client work at times.
--Bait and switch--they give you tons of vacation time, but you can't use it without hurting your utilization. Utilization is high. It works out to about two weeks vacation, plus holidays, if you're capped at 40 hours per week (most Federal projects are)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's get real about how much you can expect of people before they decide their lives are worth more. There's a lot of turnover because people get burnt out. Instead of cycling people through, why not pull back a smidge and see if you can get some of those folks to stick around? Most people treat this as a training ground for something else they want to do--suck out all the marrow and then walk away. Wouldn't it be better to realize the investments you put into people. All that training, walking right out your doors--it's a shame.

I have been working at Deloitte

    Pros

True focus on development and embodies the apprenticeship model
Opportunity to interact with client execs at very early stages
Incredible benefits including ~3 months of paid maternity leave and can take up to 5.5 months using your paid time off bank

    Cons

Work / life balance is very tough to achieve as often you are at the mercy of your client demands
Previously required ridiculous amounts of internal firm contributions, have scaled these back and now require only 1-2 activities

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Lots of opportunity for networking, team building, etc. There was always a Happy Hour scheduled and meeting new people within your company was encouraged.
     - Looks great on the resume. Top company, recognizable name.
     - Don't really remember the entire benefits package, but the paid time-off was excellent, even for entry-level like me.

    Cons

    - Easy to get overlooked if you're not outgoing, Type-A, go-getter
     - They make sure you feel important and what you're doing is of value...the downside? Everyone (even those inputting data into a spreadsheet for HR) has an air of arrogance. And it's draining. Once you realize everyone's a cog in a machine and not really making a difference, the glamour fades. Which is why I left for Med School.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Consider a way to appreciate you're Type-B personnel. They're usually the ones behind the scenes making sure stuff gets done.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you know the right people, you can get ahead
Offers a variety of projects to suit your interests
Does offer training if you seek it out

    Cons

    * Get ready for extra work, they call it "give-back" or "emminence", but it's really just work that is done off the clock and it's not optional (bid and proposal, editing white papers, Community of Practice work)
    * Tough to get ahead because they give you a projected promotion date, then they push that out at least a year or two to suppress your salary and lock you into a pay grade for a few years
    * 401K is an absolute joke, 1.5 % that is only vested after 4th year with company. They do offer a pension, but only if you are still with the company after age 55 and have not been fired prior to that point. Good luck with that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get serious with your 401k, I know the P/P/D level could spare some change to those that are not millionaires.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great Company
Access to boarder firm, network and service offerings
Collaborative culture, access to any leadership in the firm and great mentors
Pay is competitive with the market
    Excellent vacation

    Cons

You need to work long hours to get good rating and bonus. There are different career opportunities if you want to balance between personal and professional life
401k is just 1.5% of first 6% is very low compared to others
You need network to get the right projects and recognition

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should collaborate more between commercial and federal
Base increases of 2 to 3% is not acceptable even though bonus are far with the market. Seriously consider revisiting this benefit. If a person works hard and gets 1 rating, a raise of 3% does not cover the inflation

    Cons

company expects to perform at your best, which could be challenging, but it could provide good motivation to grow up.

    Not for everyone

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is competitive...other benefits are so/so.

    Cons

Deloitte advertises to its employees lots of opportunities for training, but realistically the good training sessions are few and far between as they fill up very quickly. It's also fairly difficult to get to Deloitte University unless you're a new hire or promoted to a new level.

The "Consultant" job level qualifications are too broad. You have "Consultants" with 2 years of professional experience started directly out of college and those with 8-12 years that have MBAs. Both are "Consultants". Deloitte short-changes Experienced hires.

Deloitte talks a big-game regarding culture and values for other organizations, but does not take care of its own housekeeping.

    Very cocky atmosphere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Prior to "Senior Consultant" the "Consultant" job should have an intermediate progression.
