    Pros

Excellent starting point for those fresh out of college to learn the basics of consulting and client service. The pay and benefits are great.

    Cons

Your career is in your own hands but the growth of your network and building a support team around you is critical. Deloitte is a matrix'd organization where you might have many bosses, project managers, client leads, and it's up to you to manage the seeming lack of hierarchy.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Client selection is varied and you can learn a lot in a short period of time, opportunities to move around or to focus make this a great job for entry level driven individuals and with proper initiative a great place to grow and learn from other very intelligent individuals

    Cons

Work-life balance is a constant challenge though lately they are finally taking actionable steps to improve, the quality of folks has diluted a bit because they have grown so large; "extra curricular" internal activities are stressed

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely structured career path(s) in management as well as technical areas.
Impressive roster of clientele in Federal and Commercial markets.
Great name overall in the industry

    Cons

Highly competitive sales and managed revenue targets.
Promotions hinge upon disruptive work life balance, If one is willing to put in 80 hours a week and, go ahead and enjoy rewards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce utilization targets for senior consultants and managers to focus efforts on training and professional development, please be more generous when sending employees to conferences

    Pros

Learn tons on subject matter, leadership and managing cross-functional teams. If you get on a project with a good team and leadership, it's mostly good. Travel perks are good (can travel to other places besides home for the weekend for the same money), so if you are young and want to take advantage of it, you can see a lot of the world.

    Cons

Work-life balance - requirements around client work, firm initiatives, people development, learning etc. Need to do at minimum 45 hrs client work and handle all the other activities in addition. Also, add travel hours (from personal time) every Monday and Thursday. You will be on a fast train through life!
Political - need to manage up big time and don't expect understanding.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good compensation, not as competitive than McKinsey, but reasonable compared to the other Big Four competitors. Great benefits. Attracts driven people.

    Cons

Not much flexibility to migrate between practices. Once you're signed onto technology (vs. strategy or human capital) or a particular practice area (e.g. health care vs. energy etc.), it's a cumbersome process to migrate. You have to work hard to network internally to get new work. Expects long hours while on client site, especially if you don't have a good project manager.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I'm in the consulting practice, and they offer great training - I don't plan on staying at Deloitte more than 2 years, but I know that the skills I take with me elsewhere will be valuable. All the Excel, Powerpoint, Tableau, public speaking skills, consulting skills, data analytics, etc. training opportunities that you could ever dream of.

    Cons

They offer decent benefits, and tell you that you can take a lot of PTO - but what they don't tell you is that your utilization is based off of you working 40 hours every single week, 8 hours a day, 52 weeks a year - so in order to take any kind of vacation, you're expected to make up those hours. And when they send you to Texas for training for 2 weeks, you're also expected to make up those 80 hours on top of your 40 hour weeks. Also, there are not a lot of women in upper management - it's unfortunately a lot of older white guys. They have a lot of problems with retaining women at this firm once you get past a manager level.

You're also expected to engage in "extracurriculars" on TOP of these 40 hours a week - such as writing white papers, working on a proposal, doing random things to make partners look good, which can be extremely draining.

So not the best work life balance. I usually work 9-11 hours a day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Utilization should include vacation. Better focus on a work-life balance. Better compensation.
