I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Been in the firm for awhile now and it offers a great environment to grow in any dimension you are passionate about as long as you drive your career yourself and avoid doing just what comes. A sales driven culture that demands top notch execution, if you are not passionate about selling or fail at execution you are dead in the water here. The leadership team is great at driving the business forward and has continued to do a great job driving the firm forward.

    Cons

It's a very exclusive culture where if your not one of them, your pretty much going to reach a ceiling quick. The firm does a great job running a sales and execution business but does a horrible job at everything else. Luckily, the partners and the engine they built are so good that the business continues to thrive just by closing big deals and executing on them successfully. They are trying hard to innovate and nurture a different culture they sense is coming but ultimately they don't get it. All innovation is top down driven, needs to look and feel the same as what the partnership has been comfortable doing for the last 10-20 years which filters out 80% of what innovation is about. The culture is still all network based (who you know and help is your currency) and if you look, speak and think differently you will stand out as an outcast despite how successful you may be. It's a partnership model that wants to build more of the same partners not more of something different and potentially better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you really want to grow and be innovative, you need to figure out how to support and encourage diversity in thinking and acting. Great things happen because of diversity, the key is alignment so you can foster greater autonomy.

    Pros

    - Flexibility in managing your time
    - Taking ownership of work
    - Having staff working under you

    Cons

    - Training is on the job, expected to answer your own questions first before asking Managers/Senior Managers
    - Not appreciated for the work done
    - Useless work to complete to meet compliance that doesn't add value

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Say thank you for the work done
    - Support your staff more and reward them for hard work done

    I worked at Deloitte full-time

    Pros

Provides a good training ground for new graduates.
The skills and discipline obtained from working here are valued by organizations outside of Deloitte.

    Cons

One needs to have organically-grown within the company. It's easier for an entry-level to work his way upward than for someone coming in as a Senior Associate/Manager/Senior Manager since the former would have been more familiar and adapted to the culture.

    Pros

Great people - experts in their field, friendly
Interesting projects - access to leading practice research, innovative
Flexible work environment - can work from home all the time

    Cons

Compensation is okay, definitely less for non-client facing employees, which is fine but you still work 10-12 hour days
Hoteling (i.e., not having a desk can be annoying)

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of flexibility in project / team / location - this has allowed me to travel extensively early when I could and wanted to, and stay local now when I have a family
Investing in / acquiring market-leading capabilities (innovation, analytics, digital) to stay ahead of the market
Has recently put greater emphasis on merit-based (as opposed to tenure-based) promotions and incentives - a lot more folks are being considered for mid-year milestones, and annual incentives have moved to a variable scale as opposed to fixed numbers based on ratings

    Cons

Continues to lag the market in competitive pay, especially in Consulting

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to significantly increase focus on top talent retention in a proactive and effective way (as opposed to negotiating once someone has another offer in hand)

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The team is fantastic and the real reason I stay with the firm. I learn every day from friendly colleagues and get assigned to roles that stretch my skills.

    Cons

8 hours is a short day, 10-12 is typical.
Salaries are competitive with other consulting firms, but overall the pay is much lower than what you can make in industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve compensation!

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Deloitte is a great place to work, filled with challenging opportunities, interesting work, and dedicated colleagues. The rotation of clients, projects, and teams makes things exciting and filled with learning.

    Cons

It can be exhausting to maintain this pace over the long term. Opportunities for advancement to partnership/director are dictated by personal performance and market conditions, and sometimes the market conditions are not there. Keep focused on learning and advancement, and know when to pull the plug.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be cautious of your overzealous admiration of direct admit partners/directors. External hires are not often more successful than internal candidates, especially when looked through a long-term lens. By dismissing internal candidates, you run the risk of demotivating potential stars.

I have been working at Deloitte full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast career progression, exposure to a large depth of work, great opportunities to take more ownership
Deloitte has opportunities for both strategic work and implementation. The combination of the two equips individuals with the right skillsets to succeed in the future.

    Cons

Work = Life at Deloitte. However, with the multitude of great people, this can often be overlooked. Compensation is typically not in the form of Money. Deloitte will recognize and reward talented individuals with more work and new responsibilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay can be more competitive

I worked at Deloitte full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great organizational values, great people, they recruit the best and the brightest. They also have solid career paths and performance structure so you know exactly where you stand. Have worked for other large consulting firms and Deloitte is the best at valuing their people.

    Cons

Work-life balance is not the greatest as others have said, but a lot of that has to do with the travel, which also has its benefits. But I don't think this will differ with any consulting role. At least you are well-supported. And make sure you get what you want when you start as compensation and benefits will not change much.
