Friendly, customer oriented company that cares about it's employees

Support Developer (Current Employee) Aberdeen, MD (US)

ProsDSA has great benefits: Good retirement plan options, tuition reimbursement, decent health plan benefits. They also do a great job of recognizing when good customer service is provided, and give monetary incentives to get employees to do a good job.

ConsExpect to be over worked and under paid. Often times, the benefits balance out the under payment part of the position, but after a while it is not worth it. Customers often do not know what they want, and good luck if you're embedded.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your employees that are embedded. They are often isolated and when problems arise, there is little help.

Good company that looks out for its employees

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Fairfax, VA (US)

    ProsFair compensation
    Good benefits, including ESOP
Employees are easy to get along with
    Direct access to upper management
Management supportive of career path - even if it means moving around within the company
Low turnover rate - many employees have been with company for years
Loyal - will try to find work for you within the company or on a different contract if your contract ends

ConsA more traditional IT/consulting company - not very innovative with ways to create a fun work environment
Employees often keep to themselves within their office
Few social activities (happy hours, company events, socializing with co-workers outside of the office)

Advice to Senior ManagementDSA is a great company to work for with a solid reputation. To be more attractive to new employees you should provide a more fun and open work environment with more interaction between employees.

    Strategic Secure Solutions.

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD (US)

ProsGreat middle management, stable company, interesting work for the intelligence and DoD communities, fairly good benefits including lots of time off.

ConsToo much reliance on federal opportunities, haven't been able to sustain commercial ventures with mortgage banking, energy, or pharma. VP level employees with no clue who take credit for others work. No work opportunities in the HQ region

Advice to Senior ManagementStick to your guns, to what made DSA a great company to work for in good times and bad. Reward every employee equally based on actual contribution, not just the VP and above levels. And fire any manager

    Ok company

Project Lead (Former Employee) Fairfax, VA (US)

Prosgood health insurance coverage, great employees, small company feel, direct managers readily provide feedback and growth opportunities. Easy access to other managers

Conspoor management foresight when projects end, recent C-Level leadership have lead to cutting back of programs for employees, the opportunities for professional development have been cut back

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't stray from the core values that made DSA successful. Work to retain quality employees, provide more flexibility with benefits and training.

Good safe place to work, not much room to grow.

Consultant (Former Employee) Fairfax, VA (US)

ProsGood benefits and a friendly place to work. Managers understanding of employees needs and willing to work with them on a matter of things. Deadlines are often extended to give off a no pressure environment at dsa.

ConsLow Pay. Not nearly competitive enough with other companies in NoVa. Resistance to change in many aspects such as organizational management. Company does not give any bonuses out. They do not give employees federal holidays off. Employees are discouraged from working from home when the weather is bad or when an employee is sick. benefits have been cut down every year for the past 5 years. many employees are leaving for other jobs.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay increases to hold onto employees before they go to other jobs in the area.
