Current Employee – been working at D&B

ProsIt put food on the table and it paid off some of the student loans, but that was about it. Oh, and free parking.

ConsRidiculous achievement quotas imposed on junior staff, which led to all kinds of fudging in order to meet benchmarks. Silly.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat people like colleagues, not like convicts, and they may surprise you with how enthusiastic they become about their jobs.

Greensboro, NC (US)

Former Employee – worked at D&B full-time for less than a year

Prosmost of the office personal was nice, I enjoyed my co-workers and direct supervisor

Consit is an awful inside sales job. The hand you recycled leads and complain when you cannot turn them into new sales. Most of the work is cold calling people who did not know their company had a business credit report then you over charge them for access to it.

Advice to Senior Managementstop with the bad leads to the smile and dial factory floor. The training is awful, support non-existent, and yet it was presented, daily, as if it was the best thing since sliced bread

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Dublin, Dublin (Ireland)

Former Employee – worked at D&B full-time for more than a year

Pros- Interesting business domain;
- Pool of talented people in the Dublin office, both highly-skilled and enthusiastic about technology;
- Nice working environment

Cons- Highly bureaucratic organization;
- The organization prides itself as a technology “follower,” as opposed to being an early adopter – sometimes following far too late;
- Deadlines arbitrarily set by senior management to satisfy political agendas, causing stress, unpaid overtime and poor end-product quality – short-sighted decisions to reach short-term goals;
- Too many decision-makers, with conflicting opinions, causing the doers to constantly change directions;
- Waterfall approach with planning and design upfront, preventing reactivity, often resulting in building products that do not necessarily meet customers’ needs;
- The company employs too many contractors and vendors, responsible to some extent for the general inertia;
- Endless and outdated test cycles preventing any quick delivery to market.

Advice to Senior Management- Stop the business talk, and get back to simplicity: D&B is not that big, and it doesn’t need a complex and onerous infrastructure;
- Put an end to big, design/planning upfront projects, with pointless meetings, reviews, checkpoints, etc. and lengthy test cycles at the end: adopt a lean, agile approach allowing fast releases, to quickly respond to customer needs and market changes.

Parsippany, NJ (US)

Former Employee – worked at D&B full-time for more than 10 years

ProsEmployees worldwide are a great team who are dedicates to delivering high quality solutions.

ConsFinancials run every aspect of the company. You can never be sure that a project you are working on will continue because management has demonstrated too many times they will stop projects just to meet a monthly target number.

Advice to Senior ManagementDecreasing headcount as a result of a bad financial figures is very short sighted. Financial Flexibility only creates stress on your employees. Instead focus on growing revenue.
