I worked at Cincinnati State Technical & Community College full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The college was growing rapidly while I was there so we were always busy. Loved helping students get into the school to achieve their goals.

    Cons

There are some department politics you have to navigate, but for most part departments are cooperative.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There weren't many department functions to establish a community feel with in the department. We had potlucks and lunches but it would have been nice to have an out of work function to bring families to.

    Pros

Great people, wonderful students, generally pays well

    Cons

Human Resources wil interfere in your personal life, even if it has no relationship to the college whatsoever. You will find that HR is the most disliked office on that campus, and invite you to ask someone who works there what they think of HR. And if they advertise a job, be prepared to accept less money than they post. If possible, get yourself a job that is a unionized position, otherwise you have no protection against the regime.

I have been working at Cincinnati State Technical & Community College

    Pros

Students are generally wonderful here. Cincinnati State, like many community colleges presents great opportunities for teaching centered classroom experience.

    Cons

Don't expect to move up if you notice things. Emperors have clothes at Cincinnati State, and it's best that you remember that. Adjuncts are considered an unending pool of disposable employees, and the majority of classes are taught by adjuncts. Adjuncts are compensated poorly, though commensurate with a sort of regional adjunct collusive rate of pay. Seem to hire more "corporatized" adjuncts rather than more "academic" types of adjuncts for full time positions. Also, there is a 2 month pay lag, as term contracts are not delivered and signed until a few weeks into the term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase pay, provide more facilities (to perform duties), present contracts before the term starts. Keep tabs on the climate of the individual departments without being invasive. Certain cliques seem to develop here, and not in a positive way.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Cincinnati State Technical & Community College full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The faculty are supportive of each other.

    Cons

The management/administration does not respect the faculty.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust people. Don't listen to the "old guard." Make opinions for yourself. The separation between management and faculty will break this college.
