Current Employee – been working at Ciena as a contractor for more than a year

Pros – Less Work Pressure, Independence in terms of vacations and holidays, Good processes and technology to learn from. FOOD dominantly plays important role. Good food.

Cons – Growth is limited, Sudden and instant terminator from job, Salary is less Keep most of the employees on contract thus keeping us biased from EMPLOYEES in terms of facilities.

Advice to Senior Management – Keep the employee satisfaction as a key strategy to get best out of a employees, as you have in a past couple of years, sustain it.

Current Employee – been working at Ciena full-time for more than 7 years

Pros – facilities - A very good office, though as number of employee are growing avg space of an employee is reducing. But I will rate is very high, given the fact that I have worked in 4 more companies.
Lunch at office - It is one of the hidden reasons why people are not leaving the company :)
Salary - Best at least among the peers in NCR
Work - Work is average. Although on cutting edge technology but low in value chain.

Cons – first line managers, communication with employees. Too many senior people and no relevant work for them. This has created huge problem in organizational growth. Even for junior engineers growth has stopped. A great rift between managers and engineer. A technology company should respect its engineer more than its manager but in Ciena it is just opposite more like a manufacturing company.
Promotions here are less celebrated because there are more controversy than general acceptance

Advice to Senior Management – Take people in confidence. Explain to them current scenario rather than giving unreasonable excuses. Be transparent in your decision. Make an environment where we feel proud to work in.

Pros – 1. Casual Work Environment
2. No need to inform your supervisor for Leaves, just take and then say "unplanned leave"
3. Full of extra curricular activities, nothing technical.
4. Informed (not Mock) Fire Drill every 6 months
5. Annual Party thrown at Five Star Hotel
6. Developes everything in software viz. DSP, drivers, embedded applications, user interface in india center only, but you won't get everything to learn because you will be tied up with just one module for years, after all they want to develop expertise for themselves.
7. Very Good in hand salary

Cons – 1. No career growth
2. Either No or very high work pressure
3. Every hour verbal reporting, email reporting is additional
4. Management hardly knows people managment, just puppets of their foreign counterpart.
5. No defined criteria for promotions, may get based on your criticality
6. Reward program is extremely poor, basically management does not know when to reward an employee, for them it is always expected performance.

Pros – It's good to work with good equipments, good hardware and software. The company is not so big and well managed. There are a lot of opportunities for growth.

Cons – As a small company, HR is not very good, specially if you are not an employee from the headquarters. Also the employment process is too slow. It takes 2, sometimes 3 months to complete the whole process of interviewing and hiring someone.

Advice to Senior Management – Invest in people and cut some of the bureaucracy so the company can act faster if needed.

Cons – Should create more career growth opportunities.

Infrastructure is also good.

Cons – Lot of legacy code..
Challenging work is given to some specific people only.Others have just side work.
Documentation is not encouraged for their products and code as well.
