I have been working at Cerner full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty legit. Healthcare coverage, stock purchase plan, 401K match and profit sharing are all great.

    Casual, laid-back environment

Lots of activities for associates to meet, mingle, make friends

If you don't travel, work life balance is great.

    Cons

After changing job titles, it is difficult to receive compensation comparable with other associates in a role.

    On-campus cafeteria is expensive.

Redundant processes and personnel need to be addressed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work to eliminate redundant processes and provide better training for specific tools.

I have been working at Cerner full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you work in Kansas City where the Headquarters are, it's a pretty awesome environment and they take good care of their associates with all sorts of perks you would expect from a technology employer. They encourage associates in career growth. Benefits are pretty spectacular. Training and collaboration systems are encouraged.

    Cons

If you work at a client site, the perks enjoyed at the headquarters are non existent. Pay is less and do not meet market averages. Unless you are willing to move to another site or headquarters, career growth is limited. If you are willing to move to another client site or to headquarters, salary is not increased to match market but are "taken into consideration" in the next review. Workflows in ITIL documentation need improvement to improve productivity. Processes and procedures are not standardized across all sites. Job titles are created that do not match industry standards and sound "less important" than they actually are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

College degrees do not automatically make Associates better people. Experience does. Recognize that and listen to your associates in the trenches. Consider some of the "luxuries" and benefits provided to headquarter associates for your onsite client associates. Look at the roles and responsibilities of the associates along with their performance and show appreciation through salaries in job market averages. Reward the ones who are not seat warmers...
