Capgemini - great place to grow and make a difference

Service Delivery Lead (Current Employee)
Los Angeles, CA (US)

I have been working at Capgemini full-time for more than 3 years

ProsVery open environment with opportunities for those looking to learn, be proactive, drive your career towards your personal goals. A lot of learning and training materials made available openly for employees. Ranging from technical, process, PM, etc. Generous PTO and benefits packages. Very strong thought leaders in areas of process and service management. Offshore delivery centers are top notch.

ConsRequires you to manage your own career and make it happen. You are expected to be a business professional and provide customers top service while also managing your own career. This is as expected, but some may not like this hands-off approach. Organizational communications have traditionally been weak, but in 2014 big push to improve. Could do better at driving innovation in tools used at enterprise level as well as at consultant level (laptop spec).

Advice to Senior ManagementLeadership styles vary widely between service lines. Understand who you are reporting to, their approach and how you fit into the larger organization.

Accelerated learning without much support

Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
Houston, TX (US)

I have been working at Capgemini full-time for more than a year

ProsMoney is okay.
Got the chance to work in India and meet some of my project counterparts and increase my understanding of the culture.

ConsPromotions at the level level are given without merit. 2 years is the time frame so lone as you done mess up, you don't have to be great though.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow reorg and industry focus apply to consultants also

Entrepreneurial culture with Freedom but overly restrictive internal tools and processes

Senior Manager (Current Employee)
Jersey City, NJ (US)

I have been working at Capgemini full-time for more than 10 years

ProsEntrepreneurial culture with freedom to achieve what you want. Great People despite the fact that the French Management has limited interaction or knowledge of the US market, resources and trends

ConsOverly complicated French driven processes designed by people who sit in an office and never get out to client sites where the work really happens
Antiquated tools and technologies (Laptops, Conference Bridges, web based tools etc)

Advice to Senior ManagementBesides comp and work life balance the only thing your people need are good tools to do their job
Please modernize the software, systems, bridges and computers they use on a daily basis. Its not enough to talk about CLOUD, Information Management and other emerging technologies without embracing them. Move to new technologies and cut reliance on ineffective IT support personnel. This will make your people happy and you will save $$$.

Good place to begin your career

Consultant (Former Employee)
Atlanta, GA (US)

I worked at Capgemini full-time for more than 3 years

Pros- Decent salary with decent benefits; great for entry-level job out of college
- Depending on account you land, ability to work from home
- Lots of happy hours
- Alt travel (though I hear they are cracking down on this)

Cons- Little to no work/life balance
- An IT firm filled with people who have no aspiration of learning about technology (some managers don't know anything about technology at all)
- No IT training available
- Management misinterprets 'hard work' and 'long hours of work'
- Poor raises
- Goals you set with your assigned career/people manager are not used as a metric for end-of-year rating
- Turning more into a managed services firm under current leadership

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople join Capgemini with the promise of working with IT in IT-focused companies; not work on managed services projects. Short-term profits? Great. Long-term profits? Dissatisfaction and a huge exodus. Find the projects that matter that keeps employees happy.
