A new push toward innovation

Quality Engineer (Current Employee)
Los Gatos, CA (US)

I have been working at Boston Scientific

ProsTheir recent drive toward explicitly innovating and being more competitive has made the workplace more fun and creative.

ConsThey are very old-fashioned and traditional, sometimes you may feel constrained or that the structure of your worklife is heavily controlled by higher-ups.

Constantly driving for improvement

Process Technician (Current Employee)
Maple Grove, MN (US)

I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat culture of knowledge sharing and improvement. Good opportunities for career growth, both within a department as well as inter-departmental moves. Good vacation policy.

ConsHealthcare benefits are not very good.
Production operators not treated well.

Advice to Senior ManagementMaintain the knowledge sharing culture. Try to keep management more stable. Managers moving up is good, but swapping managers every 1-2 years makes it difficult to have consistent and measurable progress, as goals are also shifting that fast.

Salary adjustments based on cost of living needed.

Clinical Specialist II (Current Employee)

I have been working at Boston Scientific full-time for more than 3 years

ProsA strong and supportive team environment. A lot of opportunity for growth into various roles. Interesting, challanging, always learning.

ConsThere is no salary adjustment based on cost of living. Unless you live in the mid-west, you will make much less comparable to competitive companies in more expensive areas. Someone living in Iowa makes the same base salary as someone in NYC. You are expected to do a lot of your work on your own time as well as many events without compensation. Most colleagues I know work at minimum 60hrs a week. Most 70-80

Advice to Senior ManagementSalary adjustments based on cost of living should be addressed. You invest a lot in training employees and proper compensation would keep them from getting so burnt out an ultimately job hunting for something that pays them what they are worth.

Engineer, working at the Maple Grove facility for nearly 8 years

Principal Engineer (Former Employee)
Maple Grove, MN (US)

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time for more than 7 years

ProsGreat people in middle management. They are willing to develop people, and put an emphasis on promoting internally. Overall a great work environment.

ConsLower margins for their products have lead to a series of layoffs. The company is big and bureaucratic, so they are trying to lean-out the organization. I saw 4 significant lay offs while there. They seem to be shifting to acquisitions rather that develop new technology internally.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop buying back the stock and use the savings to invest in new products.

Lack of management strategy

Finance (Former Employee)

I worked at Boston Scientific full-time for more than 3 years

ProsGreat people at the individual contributor level and even some managers. Good location north of the Twin Cities, just off of 694 with access to some good restaurants for lunch. Free parking relatively close to buildings.

ConsDirector level and above have a lack of strategy. Made it through 4 layoffs in 3 years of employment but always worried about job security. Work/Life balance heavily leaned the wrong way. A manager told me to expect to work from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Advice to Senior ManagementShow more employee appreciation.
