I worked at Borders full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Always informed on what was new and coming out in Books, Music and Video. Able to add a local flair to a point. In the early part of my time with the company, could be very responsive what was going on in the community. Many opportunities to meet people from many parts of mass media and entertainment as they toured the country.

    Cons

No opportunities for career growth. No training after initial training to work on / develop skills. Compensation while good at first was less attractive after time due to only small increases given as time went on. No holiday benefits unless you worked the holiday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Chain was killed by lack of foresight by upper management and former CEO turning the company into just another retailer. Stores lost their unique and local feeling over time.

I worked at Borders part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The customers, the people that you work with, discounts on books and music. being surrounded by so many books at one time.

    Cons

low pay, bad management, no room for advancement. the music they play overhead was horrendous even though we had so much music to choose from

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's too late, they are already closed down. if they were still active, I would tell them to pay their employees more and give them more benefits.
