    Pros

    - Great brand
    - Steep learning curve for first couple of years
    - Work with some of the best brands in the industry

    Cons

    - Low pay
    - A lot of politics
    - Not much upward mobility beyond buyer
    - There are many "lifers" who don't pull their weight

    Advice to Management

Be more open to change. Junior merchants are largely the target customer, and have a good sense of what else is going on in the market. Retail is changing and so should Bloomingdale's.

    Cons

the location of where i worked the clients were very demanding.

    Pros

Flexible schedules and Union benefits. Also, provides exceptional networking opportunities.

    Cons

Managers are bonus driven and will make it very hard to approve a promotion to a different department. 70% all managers are incompetent and are unaware of sale associate's tasks and responsibilities.

    Advice to Management

All managers should have experience being a manager or at least experience in the sales position in order to gain some perspective on the individuals they are managing.

    Pros

The discount here is pretty great. It's 20% off and there are special discount days where there would be an additional percentage off for certain things like cosmetics, shoes, etc. Management is alright. It is very team based and it's cool to be familiar with everyone you work with.

    Cons

The people that work here are incredibly snobby. They act like they are big shots but aren't. The store is not doing as well as Nordstrom so most associates find themselves broke and barely making enough. Most associates that work here are older, which makes me worried about being stuck in retail forever and not making any money.

  9. They place too much value on short-term trends, while ignoring the larger spectrum of innovation in business and success

    Pros

The company has higher-than average pay, luxury goods and luxury clients. Lower turn-over rate than other retail. They empower you to do anything to satisfy the customer, which does result in people taking advantage unfortunately.

    Cons

Management is mostly lacking in creative vision or leadership. It's all about the numbers, but they are not able to see long-term goals, only interested in making a bonus if they meet sales numbers. This results in less-than-desirable sales strategies to meet goals.

    Advice to Management

Seek empowerment to be creative from corporate. Corporate, look to Nordstrom's as an example for innovative solutions and design.
