    Pros

Good opportunity for growth or different opportunities within the company. Pleased with new CEO and feel new vision takes company in the right direction. Great employees to work with.

    Cons

Growth opportunities are only in Fox Valley area of Wisconsin if not working in a manufacturing plant. Not a very diverse company.

    Pros

    Fortune 500 company
    Relatively flexible schedule

    Cons

Office politics are disgustingly obvious. Was brought onboard as a contract worker with the potential for full time employment. Worked in the human resources department. One contract worker made friends with low level management and drove all other contractors out of the office. After she assassinated the character of everyone she saw as competition she was hired on. A month later she quit and went to another company.

    Advice to Management

You are pretty bad at behavioral screening for a human resources department. Learn how to do you job and not buy into the office poisonous-snake. I am glad there were consequences and you probably sunk 40 grand in turnover costs. Take a bow. Hopefully you learned something from the experience.

    Pros

Great benefits. They have little turnover due to the nature of their product (sophisticated plastic packaging for mainly the food industry and pharma). The managers I worked under where very supportive. Good corporate values.

    Cons

Difficult to get support for continued training. It is mainly a Microsoft shop (not a necessary con but little opportunity for persons in Unix/Linux field).

    Pros

The company is great place to work. All of my co-workers were always more than willing to assist when needed. Working hours could be negotiated when needed to help me with any personal matters. Compensation was fair and in-line with market value.

    Cons

Working in IT with a global company did require some off-hours support. This was expected and my supervisor was always sensitive to this.

They had a strong management team that was very driven to improve.

    Cons

Often had too many things going on at the same time.

    Pros

Company is overall great to work for. Competitive pay and excellent benefits. Have never really felt like it is a dog eat dog kind of environment. Managers and interdepartmental and facility colleagues are supportive and helpful. You feel like you're part of a team.

    Cons

Can be stressful at times when dealing with difficult customers. Company can feel a little too big from time to time which can make interaction with colleagues outside of your department or direct facility impersonal.

    Pros

The people were great to work with. Very friendly and welcoming. Fun culture inside and outside of work. The work/life balance was good.

    Cons

Little to do in the Fox Valley area. Below average salary. Below average benefits. 401(k) match was nothing special and vacation package poor. While Bemis offered a stock purchase plan, its benefits were practically non-existent. The packaging market is a commoditizing industry.

From an engineering perspective: All experiments were run on production equipment. The manufacturing/product development relationship was peculiar. It was constantly a battle to run experiments on production equipment due to output concerns at the factories. In my opinion it was not a good strategy for a company with innovation as a core value and a result of upper management bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Short of moving your facilities, there is little you can do about the Fox Valley location being undesirable for some people. Make the job package itself more desirable to entice people to work (and keep working) for Bemis. Manufacturing and product development need to be able to collaborate effectively.
