I worked at Bank of the Philippine Islands as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They have a unique way of celebrating (holidays, events). The management usually treats their co-workers during breaks/birthdays. Good benefits especially during Christmas Bonuses (13th month). Training is also good since after 2 years of residency/employment you will get a chance to participate on a program to become an officer. Managers, supervisors and security are nice and approachable.

    Cons

Plenty of overtime due to heavy workload schedule. Social interaction with different co-workers is usually by age. The system they use are out of date. Bosses who plan projects needs to be overseer by high ranking members to avoid problems such as revising projects.

    Advice to Management

Provide salary for interns and internet connection inside the office.

    Pros

Solid management training program and specialist programs for employees.

    Cons

Bloated organization with lots of mid-tier officers. Salary is on the low side and promotion can be extremely slow. High employee turnover can also be demoralizing with most cited reason for leaving is the absence of succession planning and career mentoring.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of non-performing top level officers quickly and promote internally rather than getting expensive replacements that turnout as duds.

    Pros

Young, fun, friendly crowd, good work-life balance is achievable
Very humble, experienced and inspiring supervisors/VPs and up
Competition among co-workers is not that intense
Socializing is encouraged by the higher-ups
    Excellent training sessions
Supervisors are always open to new ideas, they are not judgmental

In short, you're going to stay because you're going to love the people, not the work.

    Cons

Work in wealth management division is unpredictable (sometimes lax, sometimes hectic)
Lack of support from higher ups in terms of marketing materials
Too many approvals needed for implementation of an activity
With bond if coming from an OTP program
    Slow promotion cycle
Physical work environment is not good, old office, old computers, old everything but currently renovating

  8. Great training ground for aspiring COBOL programmers

    You will learn new skills.
    Ideal for fresh graduates

    Cons

The salary is indirectly proportional to the work-load given
No clear career path on this company.

    Advice to Management

Discuss to your people their progress at work so that they will have a clear career path with your company. Also to avoid waste of time.

    Pros

Great exposure to honing your skill set since lots of customer transactions. Bosses are highly experienced. Systems are becoming more computerized than manual. No shortage of manpower. Good trainings offered to everyone.

    Cons

Low base pay. Computers and work tools takes long to materialize. Conservative culture. Seniority of bosses is highly regarded over performance. Promotion is granted to very few people (due to the bell curve).

    Advice to Management

New president is shaking things up with the lackluster senior management. Interesting to see how the bank will evolve in a few years.
